Hello

I can understand this is an annoying question but I've searched the whole forum and couldn't find an answer to my question.

This is what happened:

I downloaded a google sketchup model and exported it to a 3ds file.
then I opened it in 3ds max 2010.
The model was there but it was white (transparent).
I didn't know that, so I exported it to a .X file.
I copied one of the scripts I found from the Item folder in x 10 and renamed everything, so my humvee would work.
I opened x10 an could place the objet, I launched the game AND

my humvee was invisible, and started driving, I know that because I saw the green thing (life) that it has above it was coming towards me and it pushed me of into the water???????????????????????????????????

WTF

so heres my question:

1. How do I give my humvee colours in 3ds max?
2. Why does my invisible humvee attack me?? (it doesn't shoot, but it just pushes me away)
3. Can anybody please explain me STEP BY STEP how to make it all work. From the export in 3ds max to the adding in fpsc x10? all the stuff with textures aso.
Thanks a lot!!

My first question to you is: Why the hell would you make your models in Sketchup when you have 3DSMax?!

Sounds like your problem is that your model doesn't have any textures attached to it. Once you've created your model, preferably in 3DSMax, you'll have to go through the process of UV unwrapping the model (creating a 2D map of all the models faces so you can create a texture for them), then texturing the model. And you'll also have to tell the item script in X10 which texture file to use.

Now since I don't have either 3DSMax nor X10, I cannot give you a step by step run through. Perhaps someone else will help you, or just google 'importing items from 3DSMax to FPSC'.

One last remark, this thread would be more appropriate in the FPSC forums...

You can get an .x exporter for SketchUp, to cut out a step with Max, anyway... you could uv map the model, or follow this tutorial.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=130901&b=24

It must attack you because you have it set as a character in the .fpe file change ischaracter = 1 to ischaracter = 0

Next time you have a question regarding FPSC, maybe ask over in the FPSC Section as we most likely have more FPSC users over there than 3D Chat, hence why its the FPSC section

@Quik: Yes I got that, thank you very much

I was mainly thinking, why use such a limiting program, when you have such a great program (not to mention expensive) like 3dsmax sitting right there?

thanks guys

as i said, i use google SU because i can download the models and dont have to make them myself. i wanted to know if it works first, before spending so much time in making a model.

anyway, i have the .x exporter for su now and it seems to work better.
the only problem, i read a tut on how to get su models working in fpsc, everything was ok untill i launched the game.
a huge bleu box appeared, instead of the littele box with textures i made. (guess bacause the tut was for fpsc and not x10)

Well isn't that pretty much just ripping somebody off? How do you expect to get any better without actually modeling?

Most Su models are not optimized for games. Best to learn how to model. There's nothing wrong with using a model as a base for your own...and no offense to SU users, but it's not the best choice to make media for games, probably be my last choice actually.

As for your 3d max problem. Your manual will solve everything.
