I'm looking to buy a new phone as my current one is packing up, but I don't know a lot about phones, I like the idea of an iPhone, but am not willing to pay £600~ for a glorified iPod (which I already have). I've been looking at android phones and like the look of them too, I would like something with a fair amount of processing power (600mHz at least, preferably 1GHz) and preferably less than a 3" screen (though a lot of android phones are about 4").
I've looked at the X10 mini, but I would like something with a QWERTY keyboard (even if its just on screen, but would prefer slide out) and I would like multitouch, but it's not a major priority, though access to the android market place is a requirement.
my budget is a MAX of £300 though preferably around £200 (on ebay/secondhand is fine). anyone have any recommendations?

That looks like its out of my budget, all the high rating sellers on ebay are getting bids over £300 on them, and the others either have no ratings or mainly bad ones.

Whilst i can not suggest a phone, i can tell you what not to buy. That would be a Blackberry bold(9000). The 600mhz proccesor seems to be unbarebly slow while using opera mini(which is a requirment for internet as the standard browser is horrible to say the least). If you want to try android before you buy, you can setup a virtual machine with android, just google Android X86.

Unfortunately, good smart phones can be expensive. I've been looking at the Samsung Wave myself, which is slightly down from the Galaxy S. It's £289.99 sim free on play.com:

http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/15460917/Samsung-S8500-2GB-Wave-Sim-Free-Unlocked-5-0-Megapixel-Touch-Screen-Mobile-Phone/Product.html

So, it's cheaper than the Galaxy S. But, probably still expensive for those on a lower budget, but it seems you're willing to go up to £300, so that's good. If you're wanting to push it down a bit more, then it might be worth looking at some of the other Samsungs, there are cheaper ones. Because I want a smart phone of my own, I've been flicking through some of the reviews, it seems Samsung are good quality smartphones, though I'd recommend you check some reviews out for yourself.

Also, I've always found any Motorola phone to be well made, so it's probably worth checking out their Milestones too, they've got some good reviews too.
