When I first bought COD MW2, it ran really slow on high settings. I thought it was weird, because the game had these requirements

RECOMMENDED System Requirements
• CPU: 2.4 GHz dual core or better
• RAM: 1 GB on XP / 2 GB on Vista and Windows 7
• Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 7800 / ATI Radeon X1800 / or better Shader 3.0 video card
• Co-op/Multiplayer Hosting: To host Co-op or MP matches, a 2 GHz dual-core or better processor is recommended

I have:

3.2 GHZ Dual Core I5 processor
4 GB of ram (Windows 7)
ATI HD Radeon 5670 (1GB of video memory)

My computer is an Alienware Aurora Desktop, so it has all that fancy liquid cooling and stuff.

Anyway, it ran too slow. Yesterday I decided to give it another try on campaign. It told me that my game had changed since the last time I had played. The only thing I had done recently was update my video drivers. Anyway, it opened it up, and when I played the game, it got virtually constant 91 fps, and it looked awesome. I played online, and it was the same thing, I rose like 8 ranks and got a bunch of new weapons and stuff.

Today, it runs like crap again, only getting 91 fps on absolute low quality while staring at the floor. What happened yesterday that made the game so much faster? Is it my computer, or the game? I run TF2 and Starcraft 2 fine, but I'm not sure how demanding they are. Thanks in advance.

It's my understanding that most games (including MW2) only really work well when only 2 cores are running (I5 is 4 right?) so try disabling them, also, try defragging, updating windows 7, turning off ALL automatic updates for EVERYTHING, open task manager and KILL anything that isn't need (generally you can kill everything that you don't recognise, if it doesn't pop back up, it isn't needed) and turn off the aero effects.

Also: nice PC. I wish I had something that powerful

Update all drivers. Keep automatic updates on. Disable unnecessary programs things from starting up, and disable services that you don't need.

turn them off when you're in game. They download in the background eating up your bandwidth/latency as well as system resources.

@Planetary Funk I think i5 is dual core, if not, I probably have i3. I don't have anything running in the background (I always exit skype, messenger, etc.)
@Quik I've never heard of gamebooster. Does it exit certain stuff when you're in a game or something? Sounds pretty cool.
@Benjamin No, I don't have any antivirus aside from windows defender. Calling that an antivirus program is kind of generous, anyway.

I followed a guide to install drivers with these 4 steps.

1. Identify your graphics card

2. Download New Drivers

3. Uinstall Old Drivers

4. Install New Drivers

I got to step 3 and I got a Blue Screen of Death. How do they make a guide on the website that gives you a BSOD Also, it's like my card doesn't have any drivers on their website. They have 5700 series, 5800 series, and 5900 series drivers, but no 5600. At any rate, I'm installing drivers that might work and I need to restart my computer.

It could be as said aload of crap plugging your resources up.

I really do hope your wrong about the anything over 2 core thing, Because im on six, and it wouldnt be very promising if only two gave the best performance...

I'm not entirely sure if having more cores does affect it, but I've been told it does by several hardcore gamers. Its not difficult to disable extra cores if it does though.

BSOD you say? Maybe it is a problem with ram or overheating. Check your temperatures a bit.

And NO,more cores do not make games slower, why the hell would it do that? It is like you would have four computers but you would only use two, would you be slower because of that?

Is that meant to be bad doing all that stuff?
I used to play WoW with either civ(3/4), RTW or on wow forums at the same time when i was in a wow raid lol. (Its not hard being good at wow, if someone shouts on vent or an addon makes a sound you just hold down strafe. And then normally you spam your rotation, as an enh shaman i had to real rotation, but after many hours of playing on him i can do it w/o looking at the screen...)
Providing ur not a healer or a tank that isnt a pally, in wow u dont need to look at the screen...
That alagon the observer whatever, hes hard, shame he isnt up with icecrown content...

Smoke me a kipper, ill be back for breakfast.
