Twisted Metal(1-4) was probably my favorite PS1 game...I found Twisted Metal Black(ps2) to be enjoyable as well.

Although I have to say...the gameplay previews for the ps3 game have me excited, thinking this could potentially be the best of the series(if they pull it off right).
