Quote: "Whats wrong with Lordi? :S"

I don't know, it's perfectly pefect music for me. It's becouse all the Slipknot fans hate them for dressing up like, making them copycats. altho lordi started 1993 and Slipknot 1995 if I remember right. And also becouse they won the Eurovisions, wich seem to make every band hated here... don't know why, first they are like heroes, but a week later, everyone hates them.

Quote: "Really? I'm more likely to look at you funny if you listen to Slipknot because in my opinion, there's better loud bands out there"

lol.
Many who I suggested Tool to, said that their music is boring, and that Poets ot the Fall is pop, becouse they don't go all crazy with everything and Korn's lead singer (Jonathan Davis) sounds like a pig being tortured... don't know what that's all about.
And rammstein is too techno.

Quote: "Lordi on the other, they're just fun, not to be taken seriously, much like GWAR"

Yeah. Altho I don't like GWAR that much, they have couple of good songs thou... but they are doing that "copycat" thing too.

Quote: "I also like old cheezy Survivor ballads, or anything by Survivor for that matter"

I know this is offtopic from what you said but, I just got Eye of the Tiger in mind... and about that, does Survivor have any other songs than that one? I never heard any other song from them. Seriously. Do they like play that 20 times on their gigs or something?

Quote: "Oh the other hand, you have Children of Bodom doing a Britney Spears cover."

That's another thing I don't like about COB. They seem to make their covers into jokes... and well... that just doesen't do for me...

I only listen to tunes. But I wouldn't object to a decent AC/DC/Deep Purple/Guns 'n' Roses classic.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

You probably HAVE heard many of their other songs, just didn't know it. They transitioned to more of a pop-balled band after Eye of the Tiger.

Other songs you've probably heard:

1. Burning Heart
2. High on You
3. The Search is Over (my favorite "power" ballad!)
4. Is this Love
5. I Can't Hold Back

Much to my eternal shame and embarassment, I like Ah-Ha's '80s hit 'Take On Me'! I always thought the cartoon/live-action two way mirror effect in the video was really clever.

I game therefore I am.

It's mellow, you're not suppose to find it exciting. It's good thinking or concentration music.

Quote: "And rammstein is too techno."

That's because it's industrial, not metal. I can think of an industrial fan who'd hit me for saying it, but then she's of the opinion they're not *true* industrial. Industrial, I suppose you could call 'heavy techno', though it's probably a weak definition.

It's pathetic then. Lordi did it for a joke, they there for the humour and they wouldn't be much of a 'humour' band if they didn't make jokes?

As for copy-cat, bands like dressing up, Slipknot nor Lordi would be the first to go for scary imagery. GWAR's older than both of them, they've been around since 1984.

I sometimes like the comedy value. I mean, you can't beat JBO's 'Raining Blood' cover done to 'It's Raining Men'.

However, my favourite serious metal cover would be Therion's cover of Abba's 'Summernight City', there was a whole album of Abba metal covers - here I'll link the song:

i'm no longer ashamed of listening to anything i like.

being a long-time metalhead, there was a time when i thought i couldn't say things like "oh, yeah. the new slayer is tiiiiight! but, what about the new sinead o'conner? she tore it up!". then, one day, something similar slipped out and i was met with, "heh. yah, dolly's version is waaaay better, man. and, jolene pretty much rocks, too!".

the truth will set you free!

I have never been ashamed of music I like, my friends are all philistines and used to take the piss out of me for liking the beatles lol, now they are gradually learning that 99% of good music was written at least ten years ago.
The only music I have ever felt embarrassed about was Whip It, because I had it as my ring tone about a year ago and it went off really loudly when I was in a class xD.
One that I'm definitely not ashamed of but it just happened to link from Whip It and it is so awesome I have to post it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_m_T850EEs&feature=related

I'm not ashamed of the music I listen to. First of all because there isn't one song I actually like that isn't heavy metal. But even if I did like music that is "embarrassing", I still wouldn't be ashamed of it. If I enjoy listening to a song, why should I give a crap what other people say about it?

Yep, I totally agree. I personally have no music I listen to that I'm ashamed of. Well, when I make trance or house music myself, then I'm kinda against my music genre (metal since I was 10 and metal untill I die!), and I honestly don't like most of the house music (except for the songs I make, hehehe ), but the house music I make is so much better than the things you hear nowadays too, ya know? ahahaha!
And, at first I was a bit ashamed of letting other people hear the metalsongs (or house/trance songs) I made, but why should I? I mean, not to brag, but some of my music is way better than some other music that is sold worldwide.

Actually it's not a joke. Tomi Putansuu (Mr. Lordi) said in the one book one, that he loves to make music and he always wanted to be a monster. And also, like everyone in the band is a KISS fan, wich you can propably see from their costumes. He also said that he created the Lordi character when he was a little kid, but back then it was just a drawing. But yeah, it's still something you take completely serious eather... and people wouldn't bash them too much, if they didn't wear the costumes, wich means that they look at the faces, don't listen the music.

Well, I sometimes like the humorous covers, but those are just... too... I don't know. I like Dope's You spin Me Right Round cover thou :-P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPQwyXw-OUk
Many people seem to confuse this cover as Marilyn Manson's...

Quote: "and there is only slipknot and lordi dressing up?

That was me just saying, that Lordi was before Slipknot. Not that there is not more dressing up bands.

Great idea for a topic, Jeku!

Hmm...there's not really anything I listen to that I'm ashamed of, except super-cheesy '80s music (such as "Waiting for a Star to fall" by Boy Meets Girl -- YouTube it).

My favorite genre by far is Classic Rock/Heavy Metal, but occasionally you just can't beat the upbeat cheesy synth noises of the '80s with a loud fretless bass underlining the main melody with lots of random notes....

I concur, even if it was half-heartedly - I was at a festival, they were playing whilst we were looking for something to eat, but it's definitely awesome to watch. I think they're meant to be one of those bands to be seen, not heard.

I guess... a couple of my bestest friends are in the "Yeah I'll listen to anything except rap" crowd, but I really like atmosphere:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FjCWr6Z7xU <-- didn't like this song the first time I heard it, but on the second listen-through (it came up twice on pandora) I was like "woah".

Aren't they more of an underground(but successful) hip-hop band? I know a lot of people like them who wouldn't normally listen to that genre.

Same here! It used to be the only show I recorded on my DVR, but that was kind of awkward when my gf was checking out my shows. All I had recorded were Judge Judy and To Catch a Predator.

Ditto. It's the only song of hers I will get close to. I believe I heard a remixed version which really kicked butt.

EDIT:

Ok, the only version of Piece of Me that I've heard was the Bimbo Jones Club Remix.
