Are there any special colleges/Unis out there that help get the qualifications required for the gaming industry?

There's lots of ways to go, an Art school, regular uni, and gaming schools, plus probably more. You could probably get a programming job with a computer science/ software engineering degree and maybe a computer engineering degree if your good. There's probably other degrees too. I'm in uni myself so not really sure but thats from what i heard. I also heard most gaming schools are a waste of money like Devry, but there is an exception Digipen is really good, they have a campus in redmond, washington as well as vancouver as far as I know.

Or, if you feel like you could spend an undisclosed number of years eating nothing but ramen, you could go the indie development path (not that i'm speaking from experience)

iam, when iam finished in this school, going to a highschool/college thingy (i have NO idea what it is called in englishxD) which only focuses on 3d, both high and lowpoly, so yeah ,there is schools focusing only on say gaming programming, 3d, and alikes. As iam aiming for gaming industry, and if i dont get a job in it, then atleast i can keep it as a hobby with my friends and maybe start an indie company.

its college/University in UK

I don't think you get gaming specific ones in the UK, the closest thing is an art college

Teeside university has a game development course, plus there's the Qantm college in London.

If you're in America, there's the Guildhall at SMU.

I'd love to see things from your point of view but I can't get my head that far up my bum.

Most companies want 2 or more years experience in another games company and with a few titles published that you helped work on, so its pretty impossible to get a job, catch 22.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, AMD Phenom II X4 940 3.0Ghz, 2.0GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz, ATI Radeon Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X

Nah theres pretty open ended courses everywhere in the UK that incorporate alot for games design. I start my course on the 27th this month which will cover and wide range of aspects from html and C+? i think to modeling and udk, not all aimed for the industry but will benefit me nevertheless. Course title is creative computing if it helps.

If you want to be a programmer, get your Computer Science or related degree... period. It will be the most helpful to you when applying, because it's their #1 required trait on all their job summaries. You're playing with fire if you take one of those "Videogame" degrees from an art school, because it will make it much tougher for you to get in the door.

You *could* get your start in QA, which requires little more than a high school diploma, but it will be next to impossible to move to any worthwhile position unless you have that piece of paper degree.
