It was already announced 2 days ago, but I've only heard about it today.
From their site:
Quote: "Dear GOG users,

We have recently had to give serious thought to whether we could really keep GOG.com the way it is. We've debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we've decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.

We're very grateful for all support we've received from all of you in the past two years. Working on GOG.com was a great adventure for all of us and an unforgettable journey to the past, through the long and wonderful history of PC gaming.

This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

On a technical note, this week we'll put in place a solution to allow everyone to re-download their games. Stay tuned to this page and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

All the best,
GOG.com Team"

But from comments at their Facebook:

Quote: " I'm just thinking, it doesn't seem right. Look at their Twitter. They announced the Codemasters deal 24 hours before they posted the "doomsday" message. The pieces just don't fit, especially if you consider that they "debated about it for some time". Assuming they *do* sleep, they only have 16 hours of "debate time". D..."

Quote: "From about month here in Poland (where the HQ of CD Projekt=GoG is), there are RUMOURS that something huge connected with GoG is coming. I don't know if it's true but we should all wait patiently some days .

Maybe there will be new GoG or something even more nice?"

Not really sure what to think about it. If it's true that they are closing, then it's really a bad news. If they are just changing, then it's not a good way of announcing things...

This sucks, I spent over $200 on a bunch of games there, but haven't downloaded them all yet. They state there will be a way for us to download our purchased games, but still... this is why digital distribution can be scary.

Yeah. Think of it as Steam with classic games without any DRM or necessary apps, only an optional downloader...

They never said they would close up, they said things will change. When did they say they would close up, am I missing some pieces here?

So is anyone else downloading all the games they've purchased just in case they decide to pull this stunt again? I'm in the process of grabbing all the games and all the goodies they give with the games (wallpaper, storyboards, manuals, soundtracks, etc.)

This is a looooong process.

Anyone ever play Outcast?

I have it from a game pack I bought 8-10 years ago or so, never completed it though.

@Jeku
Why didn't you download the games when you bought them?

I tend to hoard digital games. If a sale comes up I will buy it, even if I don't play it for a few years. With GOG I bought a lot of those packs, so while I *did* download many of the games I purchased, I didn't download all of them until I wanted to play them.

Site looks really neat. Can anyone recommend some games that are worth grabbing from there? I may be able to grab a couple soon...
