I am soon going to be launching MikeNet v2.0 which is a huge step above the current version. As a result I want to re-market it to appeal to the wider market as a commercial level API for C++ (rather than the image of an API built around DBP and DarkGDK). The name DarkNet will only apply to the version sold by TGC and marketed towards 'Dark' products. The name MikeNet will be used more widely although both versions will be exactly the same.

As part of this process I want a new logo for MikeNet. Unfortunately I am terrible at Art and anything of that sort, so am in no way qualified to design a logo! At the same time I don't want to pay a company to design it for me because their services IMO are very over priced.

I am offering around £15 to start with for a logo for 'MikeNet' which I will have full rights and ownership over. I can transfer the money via bank transfer or paypal. If the amount I'm offering is too low I am flexible.

The logo must be simple, easy to read and have a white or transparent background. The logo must feature the text 'MikeNet' at its heart and optionally have some kind of slogan type text explaining what MikeNet is i.e. a networking API.
It should portray the following ideas:
- Modern.
- Light weight.
- High performance.
- Easy to use.
- Flexible.
- Creative.
- Intelligent.

These are very broad and I don't expect a logo to clearly demonstrate all of these features, but hopefully they paint an image in your head for what I'm looking for.

I'll explain whats wrong with the current logo:

It is too complicated, fairly difficult to read and does not portray any of the features mentioned previously that I am looking for. The text is too small. The words I would use to describe this logo are:
- Inflexible.
- Heavy.
- Slow.
- Cheap.
- Difficult to use.

Note that the text is 'DarkNet'; I am currently only looking for a logo for 'MikeNet'.

Post or email me any offers you have!

Do you have a color scheme in mind?

@ DJ Almix
I really like this, it is very much a contender!

Only criticism is that I'm not too sure about the dot thing at the end, perhaps this could be improved and maybe enlarged? I guess the idea is it looks like an M shape. Someone has emailed me an icon similar to this but IMO better looking. I'll see if he'l let me post it up and perhaps we can combine them together.

No scheme in mind, red looks very good.

@ Eminent
Not to keen on this but thanks for the response anyway!

I had a go. I'm not really sure what MikeNet is but I assume it is something to do with networking.

woops, my first time using inkscape so I didn't know it exported the whole page!

I like this idea for the M but I think it could be done better than my first effort.

The text is still hard to read. I like the background picture, would make a nice graphic for a website or something, might be a bit complicated for a logo though.

My current favourite (emailed to me) is attached. Any comments or criticisms of this are appreciated!

It's shiny! It looks quite dark and grizzly, am I on the wrong track going for a coporate logo look?
That person's logo looks nice but it is very generic, it could be a logo for anything. Eminent's version has lots of people standing on criss-crossing lines which suggests networking as does my radio signal thing. The MN logo thing isn't very memorable either. He/she is obviously skilled with their graphics program but I don't see much of a logo in that image.

I made the M more obvious. I'm loving inkscape, I had to redo a lot of the pic because I'm just learning how to use it.

Yeah I can see what you mean. Your logo is good but I'm looking for a more modern look.

@ Gencheff
I like that alot, probably my new favorite. Criticisms:
- 'Mike' isn't dark enough. Its hard to see on my screen as it doesn't display very light colours very well.
- Maybe 'NETWORK API' should be below MikeNet across its entire width.

Ideas:
- Could try to make an M shape in the middle of the shape. I can already loosely see one if I use my imagination

1.I know. The original layer underneath is darker
2.Already ahead of you

you know what's funny. All these crits and ideas I did on the logo , but for some odd reason thought they didn't looked quite well and removed them ...

Variant 1

Variant 2

@Mike
No probs.

@Genceff
I like the idea of the interlinking shapes, I think the first M is the best of the three, its edges seem to touch every inner point of the pentagon flower thingy it's sat on.

I'm not yet sure which brightness level I prefer out of the two variants. I'll get some second opinions and get back to you on that.

I'm also not sure which of the two variants icons I prefer, I'm leaning towards the first one. I think it would be good to try and make the M seem more cohesive with the rest of the icon. At the moment it looks like its just been stamped on, and isn't properly integrated. I'm nit picking here, its a very good logo with little room to improve!

@ DJ Almix
Very nice! I don't like the first variant but the last two are good. I don't know which font I prefer, I'll get a second opinion and get back to you.

Its going to be VERY tough to choose!

@Castek
Thanks for the link, some of those are great! Got me thinking outside the box and I came up with a new design.

The M and N are linking the letters of their words together (Mike and Net), a stroke of luck that there are the right number of letters, and the e can be used for both words.
I'm really chuffed with this . Here's the logo in a few different colours...

Tidied up a bit.

can still look better IMO.

[update]

Neon

Glass

I don't know why these are coming out in low quality. They looked better in Inkscape.

Thickened the lines to make it look more uniform.

A new idea using French, Cyrillic, Urdu and Japanese characters for i, k, e and t respectively, to emphasise the idea of connecting people from all over the world.

Looking good. What if you took out the M and drew it in yourself by connecting the inside points of that five petalled bit in the middle. Then the M would be a physical part of the symbol instead of sitting on top, it would look like the elaborate pattern had grown out of the M. The M as negative space would look good.

Thanks, how do you mean make them clearer? Make them thicker or more obvious that they are letters?

Here's an attempt to make this into more of a logo. The oval symbolises the world

ot be honest OBese, if you hadnt told me that that M and N symbolised Mike Net, i would have thought it was MNIKET, and thats not good, you want EVERYONE to understand it without any problems

Ok, thanks for being honest. I had a feeling something wasn't quite right, that's why I've been messing about with it so much. Now I have to work out how to make it more obvious.

I ment make the letter M look more like a M with it less rounded, and make the N the same shape but OFC halved.

at first glance i thought it was some hills with iket

if u made the M and N cables that might also be snazzy .
