Supppose you did no see this coming at all, you wake up one day and you realize that everyone is a bloodthirsty zombie trying to kill you. How would you go about surviving and later ensuring your further survival?

If i was in this situation it would be very hard as i live in a metropolis of about 20 million (plus millions of the unaccounted immigrants). Also i do not have any guns. What i would do is see if i can get something to beat off the zombies so i can at least get out of my apartment first. Then id find a car. Any car would do for now and luckily i know how to hotwire a car. So ill try to run to a less populated area where zombies might not notice me, find a car and get out of there Assuming i survive the dosens of zombies that might be around the area of my apartment and if i manage to hotwire a car quick enough. also assuming i fing a car thats unlocked, in a desperate situation id break the window and open the door.

So i got myself a car. To ensure my further survival, i will need firearms. I can look for a shotgun at a bank, they usually keep one around in banks. Sot sure how risky this might be if there are zombies in the bank. I can also raid a police station but that might be too risky since there are definatley zombies there and they are all armed. My best bet is to find a cop armed with an ak47 (russian cops carry them sometimes), run em over with a car and take their weapon and if they have a bulletproof vest, id take that too. I might have a chance at running into a cop car in traffic, if there are no zombies close enough to pose any danger, i would scavange for any guns or ammo in the cop car. Only then i would proboly have enough ammo to take on a police station. So assuming i dont die or run out of ammo trying to take a cop station, I would load up my car with as many guns i can find and drive away. By this time i am proboly getting hungry. Raiding a supermarket should be easy enough for me by now. For now i just took enough stuff to eat i didnt stock up on food yet. Before i would proboly need a vehicle that will last and that has a lot of room. My best bet would be a hummer H1 but those are rare. If there are any they would proboly be in the rich neighborhoods in the center of the city. There i can proboly scope out something good. a van might be a good solution in this situation. or maybe some kind of truck. with offroad capabilities A bulldozer would be a perfect vehicle but its slow. after i got a good vehicle with a powerful engine which will likley be my home for some time, i will proboly need to stock up on gas and food. Food is easy enough, just take whatever that wont spoil for a while. for gas assuming the pumps still work (they should its the first day of the apocalypse) if they dont ill have to find some kind of pump to pump the gas out. After i got enough to last me a while, I would drive out of the city to a rural area where there are less zombies. Now i would proboly want to turn my vehicle into a fortress. I would find an active construction site they should have some welding equipment there. I did weld some stuff before so i can figure out how to use this, Then id find some vehicles with good quality metal. Trains are made of pretty much bulletproof stuff. Anyway id cut off some chunks and weld plates of this metal to my car, weld up the windows leaving small areas so i can see the road, mount a gun to the roof maybe, weld some spikes on the front and the back. Good idea to mount a plow on the vehicle a spiky plow. This work should take about 2 or three days. Assuming i have guns and enough food and in a less populated suburban area, also assuming i dont run out of fuel in the welding equipment i think i should be OK. Next i would proboly go to a store stock up on food again and go look for a place where i can get more serios guns. like a military base. assuming i find one, i would then try to find a more permanent place to live, like a house far away from any populated areas. So i find a house and ill just work on the place making it zombie proof with razor wire and spikes and spiky pits and anything else i can scavange, Proboly get a bunch of cars and make barracdes out of them.

So this is a silly idea i though of today when i was eating a cheezeburger at mcdonalds? so how would you go about ensuring your survival in a zombie apocalypse?

EVERY ROOM SHALL HAVE CORNERS!
I can't stand in zombie movies where they just run around in circles, you have to be against the wall, they always come from behind. You put your body against the impenetrable door and when the zombies come at you, you open in and run like hell.

There are some WW2 bunkers around here, i would probably go there and bring lots of weapons and food.

Then wait for a while and see how the apocalypse evolves.

Or i would steal a big boat. Zombies cant swim, or drive a boat...

I dont think it would be hard to survive. Zombies are slow. They cant stand the heat. They cant stand the cold. They will get wounds from accidents and wont heal, thus making them even weaker. The world has lots of natural barriers where zombies never would be able to pass.

I think we are pretty safe

Gun, attach knives to metal rods for spearing. Hunting bow is very handy for stealthing. An actual sword i have from my apprentice days.

For starters, id go stright to the Liverpool docks. Yes it'd be a hell of a fight but the stored food, weapons, vehicles and most likly an army of immgerants. I could rule the place That and play extreme box forts

I have oddly just started watching High school of the dead Which is a pretty good anime, though the japanese pervy-ness kinda lets it down a little

Zombies never seem to attack each other. I'd just go about my usual business and say "aargh braaaiiins!" whenever one of them looked suspiciously at me.

First off... YOU DO NOT WANT A CAR!!!! in a zombie apocalypse everything will be dead quiet (pun intended ) so the noise of an engine would be obvious and attract zombies, especially if it's alarmed. Same goes for weapons, I'd invest in an automatic crossbow as soon as things started to look like zombie apocalypse.

Also, I would personally invest in making a self sufficient fortified building away from any major populated area, solar powered lights, a small area to raise chickens and a vegetable patch. Of course this would all have to be raised off the ground a fair bit, something like one of those houses that are on a couple of poles just slightly out to sea or in a lake.

But that's just me, and if I could afford I do that right now as it sounds like a pretty nice life tbh.

I'd pull up the ol' AR-15, my Glock, and sit in the basement, waiting.
The basement has a lot of canned goods in it at my house ;D

The 2,000,000th TGC post was made in MY ww2 weapons thread!

I would seek out the source of the virus and make sure I get infected with something that will make me one of the harder zombies.

Inhuman strength and regeneration abilities would be nice.

My girlfriend is always saying I need to change my diet anyway.

I live in a village of about 60 people, it's 2 miles from anywhere else - my Dad and I are martial artists, we have an arsenal of melee weapons - nunchaku, bokken, sai, tonfa, tai-chi sword, bo and my sister has a katana and a wakizashi replica. Our next door neighbour goes shooting for a hobby and he has a big dog, we're friendly with him, so we could easily team up, we live on a hill - so there's a good shot from the top windows. There are 2 farms in our village, so there's probably plenty of food stored, though somebody will at some stage have to brave the 2 mile journey - chances are, the supermarket will be ransacked by zombies (most people who shop and work at Tesco are, medically speaking, zombies) and town is a big no-no. The driving would have to be around the villages, catching village stores - the good thing about them is that they're small and easy to get into from the roadside.

There's deer around and plenty of rabbits and pheasants hanging around, so there's still plenty of wildlife to hunt and eat. Venison burgers taste great.

Though in my village the first to go would be our neighbours a couple of doors down, not because they're vulnerable, quite the opposite, I just don't like them and I'd take the opportunity, I'm sure their kids will thank me.

On the other hand, if we're talking about Resident Evil zombies, well, I'd find Wesker and make him my BFF. I've even got rings made up especially for the occasion. He might even give me a strain of the t-virus, or stab me in the back, or both, but I'll take my chances.

well once you have a car you can just outrun zombies in it and if it has good protection and a powerful engine you can probobly plow trough a croud of zombies. sure it attracts zombies but you are better off in a car than on foot. besides when you need to go get some resourses you will likley to go some distance away from your place. much faster in a vehicle. Also i agree about self sufficient house i was gonna put that too but fortofication is the first thing that needs to be done.

There are loads of problems with surviving the first few hours of a zombie outbreak.

Information on the outbreak due to the low number of infected people. The outbreak would basically go unseen to an extent. One or two people being bitten by other people is not going to ring alarm bells.

You could go in to do the weekly shop and come out to zombies everywhere. No amount of owned firearms and other weapons will be very helpful if they are at home or in the car. Also most shop owners don't like it when your packing an arsenal for a small army.

You can easily be bitten before you know whats going on or have someone with you that is bitten. No one likes driving with your mate trying to eat you.

Available weapons in an office your not going to find many M16 assault rife but a fire axe or computer monitor may be the only choice.

Those are just the short term problems long term the list is much larger.

1. food finding a good food source will become hard for three reasons zombies, sell by date, other people trying to kill you for that food.

2. Finding a save place to rest and sleep. You can't stay in one place as your get too many zombies outside so when food runs out your dead.

3. Ammo/ weapon repairs. Firing based weapons are a bit useless with out ammo. All weapons will break and become blunt fixing them is a concern or better having backups.

4. Sleep and killing as zombies make a noise that noise will wake people up a few weeks of bad sleep and everyone going to be a grumpy, slower and make bad moves. Also killing be it a zombie or a person is going to have an impact regardless of your training.

Today's soldiers are trained for combat and most come back with some sort of mental problem. The impact of killing others for someone not trained would be much worst.

5. Other people are good allies allow others to watch out and cover you. However other groups may attack you for your stuff. That nice 20 cans of cat food may feed you for a month but you may have to kill for it.

6. Existing fighting skills most combat skills and combat knowledge would mostly be useless. Blowing up an enemies fuel dump usually is helpful in a war as you deny the enemy that resource. Zombies on the other hand don't use fuel.

The combat martial arts unarmed sure zombies are slow but if they get a hold of you they aren't letting go. So perfect timing is needed all the time. Due to tiredness and being human we all start making mistakes and that leads to zombie food.

Weapons base martial arts are useful is some places. The combat training is based on cutting vital parts of the person or stabbing an organ. With a zombie on the other hand only one thing kills them that's a crushing/dismembering the head. OK cutting an arm off or a leg may slow said zombie down but it is not dieing like a person would be.

Lots of edgy weapons sold are not fighting grade but acting grade or show grade and would snap quickly. Most acting grade items would break trying to cut someones head off.

Firearms training own armies work on fire enough rounds at the enemy they die. However unless its a head shot its not going to effect a zombie.

Sometimes its better to keep it simple. A crowbar is an excellent weapon. One can crush a skull, its durable enough to not break easily and is light. Its bonus is it can open doors.

I'll add something later on.
