Got a Dell Inspiron 1545.

Ok, so not the best available, but it was basically free. Given two basically identical laptops with different colored cases, the guy just wanted the blue one to work and I could use the black one for any parts that I need to do so. Turns out the only issue was a bad harddrive, so I swapped them and it worked fine. Picked up a WD 500GB today for $60 and installed Win7 Home Premium 64-bit and all is working fine.

T4300 (2.1GHz)
4GB ram

Swapping the harddrives was a little more involved that you'd think. Somebody apparently tried to remove it at one point and stripped the head of the screw completely. I had to (very carefully) drill it out.

Now, to get used to using Windows 7. I did save about a 60GB partition to put Linux on. Any tidbits for dual-booting linux with Win7?

Yeah, install windows first, otherwise, should be good to go.

I found Linux Mint and installed that alongside Win7, couldn't have been easier.
