Android is currently the most purchased mobile phone OS! Check it out:

Overall, Android is still behind the other 2 mobile phone operating systems. However, as you can see, it is rapidly catching up:

Not when my games are released! Then Android sales will quadruple and all computers everywhere from embedded watch chip sets to satellite super computers will be running Android, just so they can play Poop Pirates No.2.

The Android is the Droid, correct? Just want to make sure.

The OS is good, but quite honestly I dislike the overall look and feel. It's bulky, large, and quite heavy.

But it is good to know that they are increasing their sales and that Apple isn't the smart phone hog anymore

Redoing my entire website... again. EDIT: Finished it! Whew.

That can actually be changed. The phone supports themes and is open source.

I <3 Android it's like the Windows of phones (even though I can't stand windows mobile).

I agree completley. I feel like they didn't have a design in plan and just made features to it, without giving it a real way to tie everything together. It seems like everything's off in its own location and nothing really feels like it is all one of the same Operating System.

I should hope so! I don't want to see apple monopolising the phone market, it honestly frustrates me that everyone seems to leaning towards writing for the Iphone, a more operating system which can work on different brands of phone seems to be more fair for consumers and writing software only for the Iphone can cause a lot of harm to the phone industry.

Adoption is a bit lacklustre if you consider Apple manufactures only a single handset and this supposedly makes its way onto many different phones...

Not to mention the Android app store is a mess. There is little to no QA moderation at all to test the apps before they're approved (last time I checked, anyway). Developers are already frustrated that their apps rise don't forward when so much crap has been submitted--- much like the PC market I guess.

Well, Windows Phone 7 is coming out soon.

It may be a mess (I can't say for myself, I'm about to buy my first Android phone), but if it truly is like the PC market, then the best apps will rise to the top as people find them. All you have to do is look at the "top rated" or "recommended" apps.

Then comes the issue of becoming 'top rated' in the first place. If you've got a really good app that's sat at the bottom, it's not necessarily likely that many people will find it. Even in the PC market little gems get skimmed past unnoticed.

Not to imply one system is better than the other, just a weakness.

Doesn't surprise me. I've had an iphone for about a year, and just recently broke my contract after using my brother's Android phone for about a week. I suspect that there are many more like me who are switching to Android.

To be honest I was never really enamored with the iphone , Android has this more "homebrewed" feel to it that fits my PC roots better I guess. To each his own as it goes.

If you don't mind digging through reams of crap to find the jewel, then by all means. It's hard enough finding good apps on the iPhone.

iPhone apps are very hit and miss, and you can't go by price either.

Take Undercroft for example, the best iPhone game I've played, and it's totally free. Yet I've paid good money for tripe that I'll never play.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new device with a joypad for a change - programming for touch devices is a little limitating, only so much you can do to emulate a joypad.

I think the lack of a joypad creates new innovation in how we think games should be. It doesn't always work out but some of the things people come up with for controlling the game using the accelerometers is pretty cool.

That chart can be misleading as several people will think iPhone is being compared to Android as if Android was a single phone. iOS is only sold on 1 model of phone, Android is sold with how many different phones through how many companies? Of course Android will be sold more, that's just common sense.
