(Screenshot & Achievement found on the net)

I've heard that this game is called "Hunter's Night".
What do you guys think of the game?

Yup, badly spelt achievments, graphics identical to halflife just with a badly modded different gun, and a totally unnanounced game in the works. That sounds like valve to me!

You can get further with a smile and a gun than you can with just a smile.

Being based on the HL2 engine does not make it a Valve game.

Totally Valve - a completely nonsense achievement that doesn't even have correct grammar, an AK47 in a Half-Life game, an AK47 shooting at a wall, bland map, no news, no updates...

There was originally an AK47 in Half-Life 2.

Valve's "new game" is Dota 2.

As for the screenshots, as if Valve would spell an achievment wrong and use blocky brushwork and bad lighting?

for some reason iam not convinced
the graphics looks like SOURCE, and if valve would make a new HL style game now i think they would use, ie SOURCE 2 or a totally new engine.
acually, it looks like Killing floor, which has worse graphics than HL2, also an AK?
and that achievement.
It seems more like a mod than a game

Umm, the whole point of the Source engine is that Valve will never make a new version, only update the existing one constantly as new features are added...

So then modders aren't left behind, etc.

I hadn't noticed before, but we're all incredibly cynical, distrusting people I like that.

wouldnt that, unless updating graphics aswell, mean that their games will essentially be so outdated that...
well you see my point

But if you update the core files constantly quik you can pretty much rebuild the entire engine over time. Its like slowly upgradng your pc in a way. If the engine/code//>case is versatile enough then you can pretty much do anything within it. Also updating stock media like in the fpsc community, would just raise the bar for the graphics aswell.

Is the source engine still the same one used all those years back when HL1 came out?

no, HL2 was the first to use it. HL1 used a modified version of the Quake engine.

No. It's erm.. Evolved? Also, they made a whole lot of changes when they started porting it to Mac, changes which have unfortunately ruined some of their games (CS:S).

EDIT: Just seen the post above, so no, it's definately not the same engine

Well, it was called GoldSource. Also Source is just a more heavily modified of Gold Source, it still even has signs of it being modified from Quake as according to John Carmack there is still some programming from Quake present in Source. So in some ways Source, is the same as GoldSrc, just much much more heavily modified.

it was rewritten from the ground up. So it is essentially still part-quake, but any similarities to goldsrc is from reusing the code, rather than being part of what they started with.

Yeh, they built Source from scratch, then added bits of GoldSource in when they needed it.

I cant understand that they will have 3 new games ready in that time.
Maybe not all of the surprises are games.

However i certainly hope they continue Half Life or i'm gonna start breaking stuff soon!

it was one of the surprises, everybody was expecting EP3.

Valve actually called it "a surprise" leading up to E3

...But I love Portal.

And it was kinda surprisingly, with the incredibly insane way they hinted towards it's release.

I believe one of the surprises was that Portal 2 would also be released for PS3.

Or that Gabe Newell stopped eating Twinkies and actually started getting HL3 made now.
