This card isnt as powerful as my HD5870 but unlike the 5870 i decided to get the GTX460 with 2 gb of memory which is clocked at 3.6GHZ. I decided to get this card for 3d design purposes and photoshop on my other computer replacing my radeon x1950pro. a while ago when i was trying to make a large sized terrain (that would be split into smaller chunks when exported) in T.ED i noticed that i dont have enough memory to load all of it and the more details i make the more often the program crashes. Also this card supports Physx so if i ever get dark physx or similar this might help. so would this card be good for this? i wish there was a 4gb version of this card but the only 4gb cards out there are cutting edge that cost $1500

The software would need to be 64bit to take advantage of it.

that sucks, win xp 64bit has terrible driver support and i have some stuff inside this computer that dont even support 64 bit like my sound card and wireless card. and i really want to use XP on this computer since all my other comps already have win 7

I'm sorry, did you say 2 1gb cards or 2 2gb cards. You can take advantage of it if you have, say, 2gb system memory and 2gb video card memory and windows xp 32bit. If you have 4gb video memory, you wouldn't be able to use it all as a 32bit system only offers about 4gb of memory space max.

Guess I misunderstood your post at first.

That said, windows 7 is quite good at xp compatibility. You should try it out.

A 3GB version of Geforce GT440 is comming out very soon, maybe those will be worth a shot, they will even have SLI so you can have 6GB of video ram for cost of one 5870.

sw33t cant wait to get my hands on one of those. and just so noone would be confused i have a single card with 2 gb of memory on it. unfourtunatley right now this motherboard dosent support SLI. I am planning to upgrade my 3.4ghz pentium d to a core 2 quad (yes my mobo supports it) and add 1 more gig to my 2 gigs of system memory. I figured 2 gigs shoud be great since its twice as much as i ever had on any videocard i owned before this. so i might as well upgrade this system to the max
