I've just been clearing out my old mail files and found this link:

drag this spider
It's very realistic and well done. Anyone know how it's programmed? It would be great to get animation like that in our games.

I remember that, very cool

They use a similar procedural walking system in GTA4, comes into good effect when the player is drunk. I think that example is a mix between IK animation and procedural walking, IK comes into effect to move the leg according to the body, by calculating the ideal footstep position for each leg, compare the distance between the foot and the ideal footprint, and adjust the leg if it's too far away. Best to imagine the spider as 8 dots on the ground with constantly updating ideal target dots. The complex bit is the inverse kinetics, people have already done procedural walking in DBPro quite efficiently - but with simplified legs rather than full models.

Hahahaaa! Well done indeed! Jeeez, that spider was kinda drunk when I played with it. Whahaahaahaa! But, it always came back, so I guess it is a very well trained spider. Hahahaaa! And, it didn't stop eating. Man, she was hungry! Hahahaaa!

Yeah, very nice animation and interaction. I think it is written in Java Script. They are Flash projects. If you go to the home page, you can find code from one of his projects (look under 'Other Projects'.

I think in DBPro, you would need a boned spider model (with animation), and then manipulate it using the limb commands. Add some shader for the shadows, add code to change the thickness and length of the various parts of the spider...

Slayer rules!!! Yeaaah, man!
