Well I think this is an appropriate forum to share my videogame views. I've just finished a small write up on the recently released Sonic 4 - Episode 1 game, it might help some of you make up your minds as to whether to grab it:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 – Episode 1: Review

To summarise, aside from wanting to copy Sonic 2 too much and my personal loathing of the new (...Or old) special stages, most 2D platforming fans will find a great deal of entertainment here (even if it's short lived).

Interesting review. I was wondering about grabbing it myself, as I grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog and have been disappointed with some of the rather uncomplimentary titles they've released, apparently Sonic the Hedgedog on XBox 360 and PS3 doesn't exist, this is what people keep telling me.

However, I could finish grabbing all of the old Sonic games from XBox Live Arcade, I already grabbed Sonic 3 and finished it again recently.

But in my opinion, they were losing their touch with the games and because it's a major Sega/Sonic Team title, it's hard to let go, especially when it generates a great deal of income. Sonic 4 seems like their attempt to appeal to people's nostalgia, which I think is great (I like nostalgia), sometimes I don't like series that have a perfectly working system that's really enjoyable and then decide to stray from it completely (hint to Square Enix there for you). The Mario series has actually managed to remain true to itself, but then, who likes Mario? There's no way I'd trust a plumber who pops magic mushrooms and then thinks he's saving a princess from a giant turtle by riding his green dinosaur called Yoshi(AKA my cat, poor thing...I actually have a cat called 'Yoshi', this is quite fitting), I'd prefer it if he just put his drug addiction aside and did the job.

..

Seriously? Sonic is about a hedgehog who can run fast (although hedgehogs are slow as hell) who collects rings in checkerboard worlds while beating up a strange ginger in various flying machines.

Is that honestly any more realistic?

Sonic only works as a side scroller, which is why most of the 3D Sonics have been bad. I used to play sonic all the time when I had the mega drive, was a fun series. I say buy it, its what Sonic should be, a side scroller platformer.

Sonic Adventure was pretty good too though. It's since gone way down hill.

I don't think somebody understands 'humour'. I wasn't making a statement about realism, I was offering banter about Mario.

I like Mario, I tend to play it around friends, namely because I don't have a Wii and it's really only something I enjoy multiplayer with. We play the old and the new and between them, the game keeps to the same feel and remains true to its legacy - though some might get tired of the same over and over. But I like games to grow with me.

Agreed. I wasn't that huge of a fan of SA2, Sonic Heroes was 'okay' and Shadow the Hedgehog was too silly for my liking. StH and Unleashed, people tell me NOT to buy either with big heavy warnings, every time temptation has hit me, someone's always been around to encourage my conscience away from apparently wasting money. Played a little of Secret Rings, not that impressed.

A "true to the roots" sonic game has left me skeptical, namely because it seems a maneuver to give credibility to the series by inducing nostalgia, yet, I love nostalgia, hence I still play a lot of old games I used to love. So it in theory sounds great and Wehtam_'s review puts the game in a good light.

Apparently the new sonic game on the Wii is really awesome as well.
Looks like Sonic might have figured out what works now!

I'm not that interested in Sonic 4 after seeing the amazing fan made project Sonic Fan Remix:

Seriously, that's amazing work!

Although Sega's trying to stop the developers. God, I hate to be Sega though. They spent age's with a team of people creating Sonic 4, just to be outclassed by two fans with a game that feels, looks and plays a ton better than Sonic 4.

A dream is a fantasy, if you achieve that fantasy it was never a dream to begin with.
