Is there anyone out there who's made online games? I can't afford Flash, are there any decent open source programs? Are there any open source engines specifically for games development that output to .swf?

Is that with Flex or with the commercial version of Flash?

I would suggest giving Richard Davey an email, as he helped me out when deciding which open source tools to use to develop Flash games. I use CS5 now, however.

I've been really getting into flash development lately too. I use FlashDevelop and the FlexSDK, both are free.

And if you want to use some game engines later on, there are two that I know of Flixel and the PushButtonEngine. Flixel has been around for a while, but I have never used it before, and the PushButtonEngine is really well built, but is pretty new so it has little documentation and a high learning curve.

Hope that helps you get started.

@Chris K - I'm working on a Flash game for Facebook at the moment, and am interested in doing some app store games from CS5 as well. What about you?
