Hey,

I have a punk/indie band and am looking for gigs. However, I am a few months under 16 and the rest of my band is a year younger than me. Is there anywhere we can get gigs? Even just to play a couple songs rather than a set. Will being young stop pubs and the likes from taking us seriously?

thanks

matt

Well you're too young to even get through the door at most bars, but then SilverChair's singer was only 14 when they began recordings hits. Look for upcoming public events in your area then contact the city. Play for your school, any talent shows? Some people had got my HS to hold a lollapalooza one year to let several bands play. Talk to the school and see if you can get enough interest to set something up.

Search for battle of the bands. I'm pretty sure it's a worldwide phenomenon.

He did not post his age, he merely stated that he was under the age of 16 as part of asking a perfectly valid and reasonable question.

Please learn to spell.

Unfortunately we arent all in the same school so we probably would be allowed to play at school gigs... :S

Yeah, I was thining of that. I'll look that up thanks

Sorry :S However, I did try and think of a way of saying that I am not yet 16 but as drinking laws vary from country to country and such I couldnt say "I am under the drinking age". I also needed to post my age as it makes a large difference if I am 3 or very close to being 16...

It was not an unconstructive post at all, I was pointing out the fact that he was at perfect liberty to make a reference to his age as he did due to the fact it was indeed very relevant to the topic on discussion. It is also considerably more constructive than yours where you made a post just to point out my apparent inability to be helpful.

Back on topic, see if you can get charity gigs. Most charities are always grateful of having something people want to see when they put on their various fundraisers. Although you would make next to no profit from this (most likely nothing), it's a good way to get your name out there and line up some future gigs.

There are also numerous music projects that have been set up, a kind of drop-in place for young ruffians like yourself where everyone just hangs out and plays music. http://www.myspace.com/thebitontheside

We try to stay as far away from Justin Bieber as we can but yeah. My other band has some videos on facebook. To the extent that we have a fan from somewhere in asia that we have never met before (anyone wanna have a look? )

I've been thinking the same thing, I'm a singer and I'm only 18, I have been thinking about asking the local pub if they want a singer to perform at evening or whatever. But I have the feeling that they won't take me seriously because of my low age. I guess the only way to find out is to actually ask the pub owner.

I was riding around with an upcoming band in Orlando once looking for gigs and the main point bar/club owners made was, 'If you can get them to drink and drink some more then your hired'...Florida ftw...

...seriously, my sig was deleted because of 8 pixels? Oh well, no hard feelings to the mod who did it.

There are some videos on facebook. They aren't on youtube yet, but if you just search "Red Tape" on facebook its the one with about 28 fans (yes we are popular ) and with us playing a TINY gig. We only have 2 songs up and they aren't really punk... (called "de ja vu" and the other is "fury in a strange bottle")
check it out if you want
