Hey guys,

I haven't posted on here in a fair while. Working in the arcade game industry is quite busy!

Last month, the annual 48hr Game Making Competition was held in Brisbane (http://making-games.net/48). Basically, you have two days, exactly 48 hours, to make a game based on the three keywords they provide.

The words this year were - Dinosaur, Revenge, and Bar.

My team and I created a game called Little Dino's BIG Adventure. We won two sections, Best Audio and Best Game.

Please play it!

Regards,
Zac

Indeed congratulations. It says a lot that you can take such a whack concept and run with it. I remember you guys from a few years back. If you're working on anything in the meantime and need some publishing or funding advice, email me.

I didn't attend this year because I've developed a moral stance against this competition and the way it fails completely to promote good game-making practice in Australia. This is particularly relevant to me given I forecast the specific closure of Krome two years in advance, and nobody listened. Rather than running a 48hr comp (which many of us Aussie game makers are forced to do every week anyway) and getting the local unemployed experts to flog the long-dead horse at re-run seminars, the Game On program should be pooling its hard-earned yet wasted dollars into supporting stand-out projects and teams on the road to commercialisation. They'll tell you otherwise but it really does not do that in any capacity. Like any game funding source in Australia, they play pet favourites and damn anyone who doesn't agree.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@MMM - Yeah, I noticed that a few people weren't there this year. I understand what you are saying about the games industry in Aus though, I share exactly those concerns. Krome's last game was Blade Kitten, a perfect example of what our industry deems a quality, original game. There are some good things happening though, with the Incubator project in Brisbane, and the Voxel Agents have gone from the 48hr comp to almost established indies. It is tough though, and you are right in your assessment of most things!

@Phaelax - It's all part of the game

Regards,
Zac

Question: do you ever catch the dino?

If not, then it reminds me of Herion Hero (from South Park), always close to catching the dragon but it always manages to slip away. Awesome that you've got a winning entry - 'twas entertaining and somewhat addictive.

Good show old chap!

Yeah, you catch him. Shoot when he is close enough It's meant to be a small, contained, and not completely re-playable game. You'll see when you get the right ending.

Cheers for the props guys!
