So im upgrading from this acient LG flatron to something a bit more modern.

After a hint in the posting compettion, i looked at the BenQ, but i already had the LG in mind since they tend to have a hardware rating.

LG E2240T 22"

[http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Monitors/22+Inch+LCD/BenQ+G2222HDL+22%22+Widescreen+LED+Monitor+-+Black+?operation=shoppingCartAdd&productId=39722&context=]BenQ G2222HDL 22" [/href]

Right now LED is the safest option for long life with a reasonable colour depth, at least ive been told. So after researching these i found pretty good reviews on them. Before i throw money at one of them, i just wanted to hear a few opinions, if im aiming at the right area at all or wheather i should consider plasma/standard LCD.

Thanks for any help

Plasma have large sub-pixel size, about 0.8mm (probably smaller now though)
they're designed for distance viewing, like TVs.

The only real choice for PCs are LCD or CRT. If your going based on overall image quality, go for CRT, obviously a lot of people don't want a chunky CRT, so I'm sure you'll opt for an LCD

I see no reason not to go for this monitor, but I'd look around rather than go for the first thing you see.

As you're up close to a PC monitor, go for a higher resolution, higher PPI, higher frquency and higher contrast ratio wherever possible before monitor size. 22" is a great size for a monitor

Replacing a perfectly good widescreen monitor just because it isn't brand new is daft.

It maxes out at 1024x768, which is not that bad considering its age, but ill need the extra size when im working in max and PS side by side. Ive also noticed colour desaturation. Which spells doom since im a graphics artist. Theres a whole host of other irritants, like its persistant need to electricute me when i touch anywhere but the on button and its need to ghost images every now and them.

And its only 14ich's so its quite a strain going from a 14" to a 46"

Ill keep it as a dual monitor for now, but im gettign another 1980xxxx monitor soon for free so itll be a spare/backup.

Oh, it really IS an ancient Flatron. Well, you may as well get a new Flatron. My 21" 1680*1050 Flatron is probably too big tbh.

The only real choice is an LCD because you can't find CRTs anymore, despite being better.

I'm pretty happy with my 24" Westinghouse for 3 years now.

I have four in my closet, one's a 28"(I think). Pay for shipping and I'll send you one Laz.

...seriously, my sig was deleted because of 8 pixels? Oh well, no hard feelings to the mod who did it.

There's also LED backlit displays and 3d displays. I'd research those options too. Some of the 3d displays aren't that much more expensive, and may be a fun investment if you have a pretty beefy graphics card.

I'm not much of a fan of LED displays because the way they dim the image in dark scenes, and if you get an LED matrix display sometimes they dim certain blocks and it can put artifacts in your image. I'd research closely.

Yup a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X But ive noticed that alot of the 3d is aimed toward the Geforce range, that and a whole host of eye problems that the 3d displays caused. So im a little weary about them.

Il have a look into backlit displays now
