Hey guys, my server's doing wierd things. Actually, I think it's dns related. I just switched to using my domain name provider's dns service just to avoid this issue, but something is not right.

When I visit itmustbetrue.com, it should give my webserver's congratulations page (or a 404 if the server is off), but on my computer, it gives some spammy page regardless of the webserver's status.

I did a dns lookup, and this spammy ip was listed 67.228.179.250. I did a flushdns and my normal IP came back, 68.68.97.239. When I browse to http://68.68.97.239 everything works as it should.

When I do a dns lookup, my domain provider's dns servers are used for the lookup and they return the correct IPs.

WTF is going on?

[edit] Ok, I think I might have misconfigured my cname records at my provider, and instead of them being a good business and returning no valid IP, they return their spammy ip. What I actually did was configure the CNAME records to point to my main domain name (itmustbetrue.com.) which I think is valid but I'd have to look into it.

Well, I just used the IP now and now dns lookup seems to be returning the correct ip, though ping on my computer still fails with the wrong ip, but I have a feeling it's just cached at my ISP. If anyone can ping minecraft.itmustbetrue.com and tell me what IP it returns that would be helpful

Thanks!

Ok, I've gone back to running my own dns server. Should be back to normal now, if you ping it. Let me know what you get.

I've been using http://www.domainsite.com for my domains, and I wanted to try out the dns server thing. I was a bit panicked this morning to find my domains not pointing to my server. I think I misconfigured it, but even so, pointing an invalid configuration to their own spam servers is a complete abuse to their customers. I'm probably going to switch registrars because of it. Anyone know anybody good?
