Hey guys, I put together a website for anyone looking for good resources in designing games. I've put together a good amount of the best books and websites that offer you more creativity and ideas. Hope this helps!

Quote: "The Best Game Design Books"
Sounds a bit unproffesional, recommended is better, but i see u already yused that.
There is nothing like "the best game design book" and that makes it sound like a nooby question/answer to me =/

I think you've missed 'Rules of Play' by Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman. If you want an all-encompassing 'best book' about game design, nothing else will do.

Rules of Play is the only book in print covering game theory from a designer's perspective. That is, the perspective of a person who must dedicate their life to and become unquestionably expert in their craft. I don't even listen to designers who have not read this book anymore - there is just too much shallow tripe out there to get bogged down in otherwise.

All of the books you have listed approach game design from the perspective of an outside craft, particularly project management and to a lesser extent programming (art is also lightly covered - though covered well). For those people, these books are a good design start-point. But only Salen and Zimmerman's book will deliver the info you need to be 'right' about any design on queue. I take a stand on this and no one who's genuinely read this book will disagree.

And yes, it is totally unprofessional - but it is the truth and I'd even put my credentials behind it.
