Practise, If you dont like the level you are doing, re make it. The city took me around 4 entire level designs to get right, The first was bad, second was better, third was even better, and the current and final one is pretty damn good imo

Also try and use alot of custom media, stock is great, but overhauling the use of it in games gives it a very "FPSCish" look.

Good luck with your game making!

The demo is of Level 5, Which I think is my best so far

Also finished a new video of Level 5. I hope you enjoy:

Hey guys,
Good news, I got my demo to work on Win7, so Ill be uploading it on the weekend

Also did a first attempt at level 6. Level 6 features sort of a junkyard "arena".
But anyway Im probably like with level 5 do 3-5 attempts at the level till it runs fast and looks good

Screens of what I am basically going for:

This level is definetely gonna change though, I can tell you that

Jared

Really good so far man, I'm liking the atmosphere on each level and how they differ from each other. Latest level may be a bit to dark though as Bugsy said. Top shot of map looks really well done, make me so proud .

Started the enemy placement, and here are some "fun" screens for you, I like how these screens capture the fun and action packed environment I meant this game to be

Sniper reloading, and getting shot by an AK(I think it is xD)

Enemies with AK and Combat pistol both reloading:

Hopefully a new video will be up soon of the gameplay!!

I like the concept of an arena style level. Is is going to be done in such a way that the player has to survive against hordes of enemies until something happens to allow progress to the next level; or will it be something else.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. The level design is great by the way. Very good and open for FPSC.

Hey all

After a while of experimenting, I got the demo to work on Win7.

About the demo:
Ok, so the demo takes place in Level 5, the city.
The game is very linear, the idea is pretty much to follow the arrows until you get to the finish.

Game artwork:
PLEASE! notice that the artwork in this game is rather terrible, if not shocking. I threw the background together in GIMP in about 2 minutes, and that will DEFINETELY not be the actual background.

Loading times:
The game will take a while to load, please note it is a rather big level, with alot of enemies.

Credits:
Well, I actually forgot to put the credits in a ReadMe, so here they are:
EAI
Doomster
PWP
CosmicProphet
Fuzz
KravenWolf
Bugsy
Mgarand
Inspire! Media
Bond1
Gencheff
Essal
Dr.Parsnips
Addicttinit
BVG.
And anyone else I forgot

The game wont work on MAC, sorry, and will probably lag on any low spec system.
Also, you may only get, maybe 5 minutes gameplay or less, I know that, but a lot of people were asking for a demo, so here it is .

Also, Make sure you run it as administrator, and use the password 886512 to run the exe.

Enjoy, I hope

Review:

Level Design - Very good level design, you are quite good at creating city environments in FPSC. I have no criticisms here.

Combat - Enemy placement is generally good, I got ambushed a few times (probably because I just suck). If it wasn't for having alot of health I would have died almost instantly. Again, no complaints.

Sounds - This one really isn't your fault; but I can't stand the reload sound that comes with those weapons. And in a game where you are reloading often, it is best to make noises the player hears constantly a bit less irritating. All I'm suggesting is maybe making the sounds quieter. Or if you want to make new ones! But other than this, a good overall game!

Well done, hope this helps.

I guess you mean for level 5? Or Level 6? Well they both use the same method, so here it is

It is just one big light, with a range of about 3500-4000, on level 18 of the editor, on the far left side of the map. Works great, with good shadows you can achieve a great moon/sun effect

So pretty much, there is only one light in Level 5, and six.

Thanks for the comment

Might have looked like that, from the angle of the playerstart, but it is on the left of the map editor

As you see in the skybox it looks like the light is emitting from it

Ok - Since I think my level design skills have improved, I am completely redoing levels 1 and 2.

Ive started on level 1, and the design is sort of like a warehouse/base.

Screens:

Outdoor scene behind where the player starts(Invisible wall blocking escape)

Looks nice Jared, however, I'm not sure about the wall textures. I don't like how the walls match the ceiling and vice-versa. I'd go for brick or metal walls personally and perhaps a slanted roof instead of a flat one. Pretty much like this:

http://todaysfacilitymanager.com/facilityblog/wp-content/uploads/warehouse.jpg

Also, please, no invisible walls - They are really annoying. Either let the player walk around a little outside or add some sort of gate to the entrance. There would be some sort of gate or shutter, after all, not just an empty doorway.

I just played the "Level 5" demo a couple of times and here is my review

The Good:
Nothing, absolutely nothing. Maybe the good framerate but that is a must. The menu would have been, if the huds hadn't 90% covered the "The Final Strike" logo.

The Bad:
(where to start...)

- level design
Just randomly placing buildings and props doesn't create part of a settlement. Empty buildings with literally nothing inside (has someone stolen the furniture AND the rubble?).Streets and sidewalks follow no logic. Streetlamps, litter boxes, traffic lights etc have to be placed according to some system not randomly or for looks (just look out of your freaking window, dude!). All in all it's just another case of fighting over an unused movie set (and a bad one).

- gameplay
Invisible walls to hinder the player from going the wrong way....can you make it more blunt? And the invis walls take bullet holes too....funny if it wouldn't be so sad.
Enemies spawn out of thin air and then behave like complete morons.
AND what kind of balancing is this? To give the player some 1000(!) lives to make up for overwhelming resistance?
The player starts out with 2 weapons....why? Because you couldn't decide? And why the hell are the enemies using a load of different weapons. I mean, they all look the same so they seem to be organized enough to decide for some stock equipment - instead of taking everything from a 6-shot revolver over a shotgun to a fully automatic rifle (to me this looks like "I have a whole model pack of weapons and I want to use them all!").

The Ugly:

- sloppy segment/entity placement
There are gaps everywhere in the level. There are even holes in the floor and in one corner the pavement just ends in the air and you finally have the prove, you are running around on an FPSC map (so much for immersion).

- the "arrows"
We allready have invisible walls that create a single corridor for the player and then you add arrows to tell the player where to go? And instead of taking even the slightest effort to create a mission target, there is a bright spot to mark the "finish"??

Overall its a 1/5 on my peronal demo scale (just for the smooth fps) and I'd call it "a complete waste of time to play".

That's a misunderstanding. I don't expect WIP demos to actually entertain me, I play them mainly to review. So it's my own decision to spend time playing everything a couple of times

But from a commercial point of view - like someone downloading your full game and expecting some fun - I think the demo level is that bad.
