CLICKY CLICK CLICK

Once you calm down from the massive adrenaline rush and manage to compose yourself, it will be nice to hear what you want from the new game.

Shame we won't get to play it for another year, chances are we'll be seeing it at E3 2011 though.

Next year is going to be a good year for games, what with Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3, Gears 3, Batman : Arkham City and Brink all slated for next year.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Morrowind was my favorite last gen RPG, and oblivion is my favorite current gen RPG, so hopefully this will continue that pattern One thing I hope is that they add some kind of perk system or something like Fallout. Their character customization is visually a beast, but other then equipment and skills there isn't anything to make it different. Mostly I just hope that they have a perk or something so you can see every location (after you complete the main quest and get far in the game that is). Also I hope they make magic weapons more worth while. I always found myself finding an amazing weapon but only being able to use the magic ability on it like 15 times, and then sacrificing my varla stones or paying a lot to recharge it. I remember in morrowind that I had a weapon with something like paralysis and I could use that effect a lot before it ran out. However, maybe I just didn't explore the uses of enchanted weapons enough to fully enjoy them.

Needless to say I am PUMPED!

Found this the other day

I want head shots to count for more damage and a less crap levelling system that doesn't rely on you using all the skills of one attribute just to raise that attribute.

Oh and I hope they are using a new engine...

Wow zero gameplay footage.

I was half tempted to get Oblivion. I want good, skillful gameplay mechanics and controls, and not too much emphasis on experience points and collecting loaves of bread and that kind of thing. Traditional RPG stuff with grinding aren't my bag, but I love big open, immersive worlds. Give me a world I want to spend time in. Being able to make a hot elf maiden is a big plus.

This just made my day omg!!!!!!!

Absolutely loved Oblivion, definitely one of the best rpg's ever.

Unfortunately, that was a really stupid trailer lol.

Signature's are stupid.

I am so excited. I really think that they were saying you get to fight dragons in this new game. I'm just picturing all sorts of epic Beowulf-esque slayings occurring everywhere.

I hate these stupid cinematic trailers. I want to see some actual gameplay! Though it is nice to finally know when it's coming out.

One thing I would like to see is a more interesting game world. Vvardenfell, the one in Morrowind, was great. It's backstory was extremely well fleshed out, it had a really great overall atmosphere. Cyrodiil, in Oblivion, was more bland and generic. In Skyrim, I want to see something more like Morrowind.

There's also The Witcher 2, which looks like it's going to be really awesome.

Morrowind is one of my all time favourite video games and definitely my all time favourite RPG. As good as Oblivion was, I felt it was dumbed down for the console market, it didn't have that massive feel that morrowind had. The weapon enchanting was much better as well. Its only downfall was the combat system, which was definitely improved in oblivion. There are only so many times you can miss a rat with a deadric longsword before you get frustrated...

What this trailer confirmed for me, is a release date and that we will most likely get to see some gameplay at E3. I remember seeing Oblivion for the first time and drooling. I'll probably do the same next year aswell.

From the video:
Quote: ""But the one they fear is dragon-born,""

So either, you are the direct spawn of a dragon or you are a guy with dragon blood in you who has to slay dragons. Either way, they seem to be involved in the story somewhat.

I think Dragonborn or Dovahkiin likely just a name.lol The trailer actually despite being non-gameplay reveals abit about what happened between Oblivion and Skyrim, as according to the VO "When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood". So something is telling me the game is set during a civil or overall war that is being waged between Nords. But when I saw the announcement trailer I couldn't help but say the Annoying Fan's line "By Azura. By Azura! BY AZURA!"

Hmmm, hopefully this engine will mostly only alter the graphics and not the core gameplay. Specifically, I hope the talking will remain the same.

I hope they'll finally add proper animations.. I always found them a wee bit rigid and awkward in this series.. Especially when you're walking forward and strafing at the same time in third person mode, to just watch your character slide around the floor..

SO FREAKING PUMPED. Was so excited that I went and bought Morrowind this morning.

My only hope for this game is that it's still as easily moddable as the others. I can only hope.

the engine is made first of all for FPS, not third, so they spent less time on third person animations^^

Epic! No words can describe.

On the discussion on 1st/3rd person camera. I'm hopeing they improve upon the third person as well. Work off the FO3 version and improve upon it. With a few mods you could play Oblivion in 3rd, though I usually explored in 3rd then switched to 1st during combat. In FO3, all I played was in 3rd, just felt right.

One thing I'm hoping for is larger scale battles. 1v1 skirmishes are fun, but you and a few NPC's versus 30-40 enemies, that would be awesome.

Oblivion is starting to show its age in terms of graphics. Fortunately, the gameplay itself is still awesome, and there's always mods to update the graphics. That's what's so great about the graphics in the Elder Scrolls games. You can always find some mod that will improve the graphics to modern standards.

How is it disappointing? It's a teaser, it's aimed to be an announcement trailer, to work the target audience and it seems to have worked. Plus the music was awesome, and it gave us an inkling of the story. What more could you ask in for in a teaser?

Erm... It does.

Obviously, it's set in Skyrim, and the Elder Scrolls are telling of something (dragons I think) that are gonna come to Skyrim and kill people etc. Then there's a guy that's dragonborn, who will be able to prevent said bad stuff from happening.

A helluva good looking RPG that is . Wasn't Oblivion a milestone of graphics before Crysis? It was for me atleast. I bet they are coming up with something breath taking this time.

I'm kinda neutral with the Elder Scrolls. I've played Morrowind and Oblivion and never finished the story. Maybe when I have alot free time, I could clean the dust from their boxes and play them through .

I'll probably get this one when the price gets a bit lower.

Well each Elder Scrolls has been a kind of Milestone. Hopefully this one'll be no different...

I hope that it's more like Fallout 3, where every little place you discover has uniquity, and you can go underground and travel, explore and end up somewhere else completely.

I love the moment you first step out of the Vault. It's just such a beautiful way to reveal the world to the player.

Bethesda have always pushed boundaries in what they do and i'm expecting to see some brilliant graphics come this E3. I remember being wowed by Oblivion the first time I saw that.

I definitely agree about the caves and unique locations. I was often bored by wandering in oblivion, the caves all looked the same.
My one gripe with it is the conversation system, the animations on whoever you're talking to are really stiff and rigid, I just hope that they leave enough flexibility in the conversation system this time to account for something more cinematic.

I think I'm getting more excited about having a fiddle with the new engine, than the game itself.

They better fix all the things I hated about it. For instance AI sucked to a point where stealth was pointless. You hit someone in the back of the head a mile off, I want them to search for you and be on guard, not know exactly where you are even though you can't possibly be seen and come charging at you when your spells/arrows are set to kill. I want to be ambushed from time to time, I want something unexpected to happen when you think you've got a hold on everything, I want a challenge... and maybe some more wild life would be nice...

A dream is a fantasy, if you achieve that fantasy it was never a dream to begin with.

True, true Coffeegrunt. The problem with these kind of games with me is that I never finish them. Are they so damn long or do I have so little time .

Oolite:

I just rememberd something terrible. I sold my copy of Oblivion to my friend couple of years ago . (Maybe I could buy it back from him heh heh ). Fortunately, I still have my good 'ol Morrowind on my shelf. I'll probably play it through when I move to my own apartment (equals: lots of free time) some time next year.

Just sexier. It's no secret that The Elder Scrolls hits pretty much every RPG cliche in the book. But it's rare to find a game plot (even gameplay) that ISN'T cliched. What usually makes a game like this so good is that it does what other people do, but better (though I suppose that depends on preference and what you're comparing it to) and have their own way of doing things. It feels a lot different to play The Elder Scrolls games than say...the Diablo ones. Both RPGs, both cliche fantasy, similar gameplay concepts, two different games.

Most people who make games aren't writers aren't necessarily trying to be original about the world or plot they've come up with. It stretches across any genre of game. But that's probably stating the obvious.

A co-op mode would be sweet, however I don't agree with the people who say that The Elder Scrolls needs to be a MMORPG.
It would be suicide for bethesda to put The Elder Scrolls online. It will probably only draw in the WoW crowd for a couple of months before it slowly dies, the same with Fallout. I think thats a bad idea aswell.

@Sasuke: I agree with you there, although when I was wandering around caves the sneak system worked well, though out in the open I had found that i was spotted almost instantly. I think something along the lines of the stranger system from RDR would work really well in TESV. Having random dragon () attacks, building fires or people that just need your help would be sweet to see.

Personally I think they should keep the elder scrolls series as single player. There are plenty enough RPG games out there that are multiplayer. Its getting much more difficult to find that immersive single player game, and I don't want ES to go the same way.

Theres a difference between co-op and mmorpg.
Its like, in fallout you can have companions, what if that companion was your mate?
The storyline is 100% the same, the game play is completely the same (you are still 2 characters). But its with a mate you can talk with.

morrowind is still sold in stores. i remembered the first time i played MW my p3 computer could bareley run it. yet it was the greatest thing i ever played. i spent hours just exploring the area around seyda neen. then i went swimming in the odai river. eventually i ended up in balamora. after that i went to caldera, stole a bunch of stuff there, and spent the next 2 weeks exploring the ashlands because i had a price on my head. i am being so nostalgic now that i wanna play morrowind all over again. i did like morrowind more because the world was more unique and didnt look the same all over like OB and it had some really graet atmosphere. and the dunmer were these complete badasses too (they completley ruined dark elves in oblivion) i liked the skinny dark elves with crazy hair, face tatoos and raggedy just their appearence warned not to mess with them or theyll kill you. oblivions dark elves are all like whimpy and stuff

For main line quests:
The first person to talk to the NPC holds the convo.
The other person sees the convo.

For other social encounters:
The first person to talk to the NPC holds the convo.
The other person does whatever he wants. (probably not talking to the same npc).

If 1 person gets a quest, they both get the quest.
If 1 person hands in a quest, they both get the reward for that quest.

Also u could have it so your no further than X distance from eachother. And if someone goes afk or something, then an AI will take their place till their return.

They would also make monsters stronger.. Monster.Strength *= PartySize;

Then you can play everything like normal, but with ur mate, however you would probably have some sort of revive system(l4d has a good one)...

@Fatal Beserker: I was commenting on the people who bang on about a TES MMORPG, not your comment as a co op mode would be sweet.

However, I don't think your solution to the problem is suitable. The leader of the game will be the person who is just generally quicker and the other person would just be the tag along buddy who kills some enemies and doesn't contribute to anything in the game. Much akin to Fable 3 (or to a lesser extent the lovely system in mario galaxy that allows a friend to do the house cleaning and pick up some stars for you).
There was a nice system in the new army of two game regarding decisions. You had a limited amount of time to choose an option and whoever pressed the button got to choose what happened but again this doesn't solve the problem of navigating complex dialogue trees, its still a game of fastest finger first either way.

Having a friend come along as a 'guest' inside my world, as I complete quests and he just battles alongside me would still be cool. So far that is the only option I can see for having this work. I'd much rather the work go into making me some unique dungeons than any type of multiplayer support.

Me and a mate have been talking about competitive multiplayer inside TES (jokingly of course). I'm on the fence at the moment as it would be cool to see some TDM in Skyrim (). However, chances are I wouldn't play it and again, this game isn't about any of that anyway.
What do you lot think?

So they paid guys to do nothing? Cos their doesn't seem to be much of a story there tbh.

One thing, they better hire at least five times the amount of voice actors Oblivion had, and then some more. I think they blew the VA budget on Sean Bean, Patrick Stewart and that guy who did Mankor Carmoran. Hopefully there'll still be great celeb cameos, (Katie Price as every bandit?), but alot more variety for the more negligible characters.
