Ok heres the lowdown i wanted to update my drivers and having never done this with any computer i've owned before i watched and closely followed the videos on the ATI Radeon website. They told me to uninstall my driver then download and install the new driver but when I installed the new driver there was no catalyst control centre and my graphics were terrible, no games started they just crashed and my graphics adapter which used to say HD Radeon 4570 now just says Standard VGA Graphics adapter.

I need help as christmas is coming and im expecting a small shipment of games and also i want to play and make games asap! HALP!

Try using ATI driver cleaner, then reinstall the drivers.ATI is known for horrible drivers and support.

yeah, it looks like you had a bad driver or something. Is this a notebook or a desktop? i would recomend getting a driver from the manufacturers website.

Driver Sweeper works well. Also try reinstalling the drivers a few times in a row then restarting,it fixed it for me.

backup your registry. regedit> save as name.reg that way you can restore your registry if you screw up. just click on your saved.reg and it will restore everything

ok can i do this kinda thing with system restore by making a restore point and then you know if everything goes to hell retoring it.

but one of my main worries is if i should touch the HKEY files.

system restore should work as long as you dont screw up bad enough to even break the safe mode. as far as i am concerned HKEY files are the registry personally i wouldnt mess around there unless i know what i am doing. i guess as long as you dont toch system registry stuff but just drivers/programs your computer should still work just remember to set a restore point and back up the registry before you do it
