So... me and all of my friends like to do experiments and... stuff. The problem with doing this in a home setting is that chemistry sometimes ends in fire and toxic stuff, heavy stuff sometimes ends in dents, and with computers, wires aren't always where they need to be.
Anyways, me and my friends were talking about building a house that would have all the necessary structures that a sciency person would love to use.
This is something I'd want to do if I had a nice little stash of money, or some good income - even though this is a thought experiment now, I don't want to suggest anything unrealistic.
What I'm thinking is to build the whole thing on a desert/shrub patch of land, with sewage/water/electricity adjacent. Then, construct the buildings (with much of my own sweat/blood) piece by piece - so that if for some reason I didn't have enough money to continue building, halfway through, there would still be the functionality of the completed parts.
The design would have to be expandable, and well planned. All the necessities (bedroom/bathroom) would be constructed first, followed by the less critical things. by well-planned, I mean everything would be calculated, planned, scheduled, and measured to the nth degree, before building.
Uhh so that's a rough outline of how to actually create something like that, but there aren't any cool features thar!
What I'm thinking is a fireproof (steel/concrete) structure, so there won't be any mishaps. For construction stuff, I'm thinking: a large open outdoor area (concrete flooring - part of the foundation?), and a large (but a bit smaller) indoor/hangar area. For chemistry, a standard lab-setup, with good ventilation, would be great. There should also be storage areas for chemicals and equipment.
Since I like things like marble roller coasters, tubing systems, and wire stuff, there should be holes in between rooms, that could be closed and opened up. Also, since stuff needs to be washed off, there should be drains in important rooms, with some mechanism in case the chemical/water needs treatment before being put back into sewage.
Anyways, thoughts/ideas? O'course I have no actual plan yet, but I think what I said could be done - structurally - in a few tens of thousands of dollars. If the place isn't way out in the boonies, the house could be designed to rent out rooms - so like minded people could rejoice in cool projects!
