Has anyone else had this message?
"Congratulations! Your account is now enabled for uploads longer than 15 minutes. Click the Upload button below to select a video."
Apparently this has been coming for a while now, but I of course didn't know anything about it! So when I logged into my account and found this message I was quite excited! Some other users say this is a 1 month trial thing that Google are testing. I'm not sure if they had the trial and this is a permanent thing, or if it's going to vanish next month. But I'm making the most of it while I've got it!
The message just said the 15 minute limit has been removed, it doesn't tell me if there's a new limit (the file upload limit is now 20Gb! My ISP would just LOVE that, lol). So I thought I'd test it out with a good long DarkBASIC Professional tutorial. So I've dusted off my 3D Pong tutorial code, which I've been meaning to convert into a video tutorial for about a year now. Reworked it a little, and sat up for about 5 hours recording it. Another 8 hours later (HD on a 1.6ghz duel core laptop isn't fun!) my blasted video editor crashed, another 9 hours later I managed to get a freshly made 1 hour 50 minute video encoded.
The upload process was painless, I managed to encode the video as mp4 down to 180Mb, which only took about an hour to upload. The 240p version was encoded and online with youtube within another hour and the 720p version about half an hour after that.
The result, is crystal clear HD video, great audio, with no need to add "goto part x" after each 10 minute segment. All 1 Hour 50 Minutes are up there!
You can see it on youtube now if you are interested.
