I had some mates round last Saturday, and we played 6 player LAN games from 3pm to 3am. All we played was Operation Flashpoint and Battlefield 1942. Old skool old times! Anyway, we'll probably do it again in the next few months, so this time I want to buy up a load of copies of old second hand games that are good on the LAN.

We only really play:
Operation Flashpoint
BF 1942
Command and Conquer: Generals
Vietcong

These are tried and tested! And now I want your suggestions for old skool classics of that era (and machine spec requirement), so I can buy more cheap 2nd hand games. They've got to be old, cheap, with low machine spec requirements, that you loved to play. Any ideas?

I used to love the original Delta Force game.. It's ancient, runs on DirectX3 or something and looks horrible compared to anything else nowadays.. But it's amusing at times, and quite ahead of it's time on some parts.

Or Tron 2.0's Lightcycle races.. Those CAN be amusing, and frustrating at the same time.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is pretty good on LAN, as long as your playing with someone who doesn't mind a set building period. Warcraft3 is good too, probably not as much fun as Generals because of the unit limit, but still a good laugh. Good old Duke Nukem 3D is a great LAN game too, enemies enabled, work together wiping them out then wreak havok with traps and all the little hiding places and tricks.

Health, Ammo, and bacon and eggs!

I loved KKND 2 Krossfire, it was my favourite RTS:

You can buy it from here:
http://planet.kknd2.com/buy/

But I think my favourite LAN game of all time is Halo Combat Evolved. (The Xbox Version)

But I'm pretty sure the PC version will be really cheap now.

StarCraft 1! That HAS to be played, especially with 6 people it's amazing! Not sure of the specs, but it ran on this system with no problems:

Intel Pentium II 443 MHz CPU
64 MB RAM @ 40 MHz
On-board %&!* graphics, so bad the thought of it would kill you

Pop me an e-mail for some more info

I remember the original starcraft. That was pretty good. I also really like the idea of Carmageddon. I remember the AI sucking monkey 'nards, but it being fun to drive and race, so with 6 people it'd be sweet. I do think I played it two player on the LAN years ago, but never 6. That's going on the list. TDR 2000 second hand is £4.50 delivered from most places.

TDR 2000 sucks. the thing about carmageddon 2 that was so great is you can get that satisfaction out of crushing your car ripping it in 2 smashing it up any way you want its like a piece of clay really good damage physics. in TDR all destruction is premodeled and its like you hit something and a small part of the car falls off. kindof like GTA3 pretty boaring. also apperentley TDR gives you less freedom as it tries to keep the players focus on the racing. In carmageddon2 you can just start causing some chaos from the start that will buy you enough time to just start freeroaming, hunting down your opponents and destroying them one by one, or you can just kill xombies destroy stuff do stunts, blow yourself up on the minefield, dosent matter because for everything you do you get additional time so you dont even have to worry about the time. I once accumilated 2 hours .

The original Grand Theft Auto was awesome over local LAN. Everyone starts off in a different part of the map and you have to locate the others and kill them somehow. It's always fun running over your buddies with sports cars

gta sa multiplayer is really fun some servers just screw around in one area other servers have a whole roleplaying thing going on with occupations and everything and the police are real people too which makes it so much more fun. i had this really epic police chase once pretty much across the whole map.

That required a hack didn't it? Do you remember how many players it supported, cos it might be worth a go.

Baldurs gate one and two for the RPG fan

as mentioned before, SC is awesome aswell
what more did i usually play before?
hmmm
... cant really think of any game atm <: but the ones ive listed can be played on a worthless computer (maybe UT03 and 04 may a better comp than the rest, but still not needing a monster computer, can easily be played in a 6 year old computer^^)

Aaah, fond memories of playing quake, c&c tiberian sun, populous the beginning and homeworld over a lan at a mate's house! 4 of us round his dining table, PCs crammed under it, monitors on top of it, elbows flying everywhere! Man I miss those days!!

We still play Red Alert. Allies on one cd, Soviets on the other. That got us introduced into C&C Generals, and now my wife and I have been enjoying C&C Zero Hour.

Sad to admit both of us have never played GTA yet. We do enjoy Age of Empires (first one).
