I didn't know if it is my PC that is causing the problem but when I go to MSN and go to another web page the screen locks up for a while. I wanted to know if this happened to any of you lately?

Windows Live is a complete memory and cpu hog on my laptop, I refuse to run it anymore or I get frequent lock ups.

Yea Windows Live is a joke. When I tried to download MSN for my laptop and it brings up this massive Live Essentials download. And by default, MSN messenger turned into a giant webpage-looking application. Fortunately you can change it back but MS has definitely headed in the wrong direction.

Yeah, I agree. The only thing going for it is that all my friends still use it. It would take quite the app to make me and everyone else switch.

Personally, I miss ICQ. Then everyone used AIM for awhile, and now most of my friends use Yahoo, which is quite the memory hog. The only people I talk to with MSN are in another country.

I actually think AIM is the better network at the moment, unless I'm on Mac where I can use Adium then I don't care who's on what.

I use Gaim/aim facebook chat to talk to my american friends. but in russia everyone uses ICQ, its really big here they even nicknamed it "As'ka" which is a cat name lol. but the thing is it spreads a lot of spam. by the end of the month i have an annoying list of 500 people who sent me messages with attachments. these attachments used to hijack cellphone numbers since most people use icq on their phones

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

AOL bought ICQ years ago, and I believe it uses the same network as AIM now. It used to be the only thing I used back in the mid-90s.

What's wrong with Trillian? Relatively lightweight and supports multiple services.
I agree msn is bloated, the newest update is all kinds of awful and I haven't talked to one person who actually likes it. It also runs around 90-120mb for me which is unacceptable for a chat client.

It's just poorly designed (and poorly programmed) software. I switched to Miranda IM some time ago and then stopped using it altogether. If I need to chat to someone I just use Facebook now, although that's not exactly bug-free either.

This I can agree with, awful to use and often crashes for me.

I personally haven't used trillian in a while as I just deal with the older msn client for now, I don't really have half as much problems with it as some people do.

Meebo is great because it's a web interface and it supports all the popular protocols like MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, etc.
