The music files, they will have the extension mp3 or m4a i believe. They can be found in your music folder, prehaps in an itunes folder within that.

Try it, I assure you it will work, unless Itunes put some freaky drm stuff on their music.

Apple has used DRM, where have you been? If his music came from the iTunes store it could have DRM.

If your laptop and desktop use different accounts, be sure to authorize the correct user

If you purchased them through itunes then you can just redownload them on another computer through itunes itself. You just need to authorize the computer to transfer purchases (only 5 computers allowed I believe).
If you have "purchased" your music another way and you keep all of it in a folder then just copy that folder to the new pc and then add them all into itunes the old fashioned way.

Actually Apple has never allowed me to "re-download" stuff I've purchased. It really sucks. I have to contact support to do that. There is a 5 machine limit, but as far as I know you're supposed to backup your stuff yourself. It's not like Steam where you can simply re-download everything. Unless I'm missing something?

Jeku, you're definately missing something. I can download on my own. I have to authorize my pc before I do so, though. And if you've reached the 5 machine limit, you need to deauthorize any old machines.

I personally never bought any music through iTunes, but I helped a few friends transfer their iTunes accounts to other computers a few times...it was easy and painless when I did it o.O

[Edit] LS, take a look at this

Hmmm, maybe I'm just thinking about the apps from the iTunes app store? I've purchased mostly those audiobooks and apps, which it definitely didn't allow me to re-download. Maybe it's different from music, of which I almost have none purchased from iTunes.

Ah, yeah, I have no apps or ebooks, so maybe the policies are different.

I've had to do this a few times. Simply copy the iTunes folder in your my music folder, and replace the one in your PC's music folder. I suggest copying to an external medium for transferring the data, unless you have LAN or WLAN. Could be slower, but easier.
