Hey everyone! I am a major user of Google Chrome. Today, i decided to take a look at Internet Explorer 9, but the first thing i noticed is that it copies Chrome pretty much exactly. It just has a slightly different layout and look, and is obviously a Microsoft product. What do you guys think of Chrome and IE9, what do you like better?

I like Chrome, IE9 is quite dysfunctional when it comes to displaying images, and it seems slower.

Haha still as bad, lol! Get Google Chrome, and you'll see that it is very similar to chrome, and not other IE's.

Opera release = 1996
Chrome release = 2008.
Therefore Chrome is similar to Opera, not the other way around.

I find IE 9 a little faster than Chrome. It also has full HTML 5 support which is great.

However, last time I tried it it still had some formatting issues. But it was still in beta.

Hmmm... Im on Opera 11 currently, feels pretty cool, but seems rather slow, and want me to download lots of plugins i think i already have. I tried loading them but i gave me an error. So i guess MS and Google did copy this Either way, I like Chrome waaaay more than anything ive tried. Chrome allows for themes as well

Opera is awesome as far as GUI goes - and it's the best for handling animated .gifs
I use firefox tho. I can't live without the plugins (FTP, IRC, adblock, that one web coding utility whose name I forget, etc.)

Also, Internet Explorer is the really mock-worthy browser...

Opera is my favorite, and yes Chrome copied Opera as much as they could.
From statistics carried out by W3, Opera is the most standards compliant browser (aka, if a website doesnt work on Opera, then usually its the websites fault).

It makes you wonder, does Google actually ever think for itself? (all they do is buy people out and copy people)

@Neuro Fuzzy
Opera also is the best for apng (animated png).
Internet Browser (since IE8), isnt as bad as people let on. It handles Javascript FAR better than Firefox (Firefox is usually considered the worst browser for Javascript).
The only problem with IE8 is it lacks many CSS3 commands which is the main fix with IE9 (all CSS3 commands are supported)

Opera may have been released first, but they've changed their interface over the years. When Chrome was released, Opera looked a little different, so I wouldn't say Google necessarily copied it that much.

Opera is my backup browser to chrome, and was my primary choice before chrome. It just feels so clean and smooth, and now comparing the two, I think Opera loads pages faster. I think the only real reason I switched to Chrome was the independent process each tab gets.

After finding out how Microsoft dealt with the competition of Netscape I'd rather stick with the more ethical company's product, so Firefox/Chrome/Opera basically I don't mind which one though.
They all seem to be miles better then IE and seem to be just as good as each other in that they each have their cool little features and quirks and seem to be pretty user friendly and also fast.

End of line.

The only reason IE explorer exist is to let you download another web browser. Atleast, that's what I believe. And I'm on firefox, haven't tried chrome though, might give that one a shot.

Yah, that actually is a good theory, but then i dont see why ms would try to make it better if it was only for getting another browser...

Because they are stupid enough to believe people actually use it for browsing the internet ( I'm not talking about people that are completely not interested in pc's, such as elder people etc. that don't have one of us set their pc up )

I use firefox - not because I think it's superior, indeed I find chrome a bit faster, but I'm just used to it. Chrome is my backup.

I used to be a huge Firefox advocate, but I've since found the browser to be too much of a memory hog. If I leave Firefox open it used to balloon well over 500MB. I still use it at work, and I understand they've cleaned up a lot of the leaks, but it still feels slow and clunky.

For my OS of choice I use Chrome at home. It has all the plugins I need, and I feel that their JavaScript engine is second to none. Everything works fast, and there's only a small number of sites that refuse to work on it. If that's the case then I open the offending site in Firefox or IE.

Since I'm a senior web developer for my day job, I have all the browsers installed. There's absolutely no point in flame wars over web browsers, but there are definitely pros and cons to each.

Do people still use IE? I guess if you have killer anti-virus/spyware/adware etc... software then it's ok. But seriously, that's the main reason no one in their right mind would use it unless it was a last resort.

A dream is a fantasy, if you achieve that fantasy it was never a dream to begin with.

I've been a hardcore Chrome user since it came out and i've never had any problems until recently. It seems the newest flash upgrade is causing it to crash inside Chrome. Quite a bit actually. I used firefox before that but it was always too bloated for me to bother with it.

Got opera on here as a back up but I haven't touched it much.

Quote: "Do people still use IE?"

One of the few things that grinds my gears. Tech savvie people assume that everyone knows about its flaws, but I think you'll find that they still own the majority of the market share.

EDIT: I meant most not majority but i won't change it because... It appears FF has taken over in the past few months. my point was that people still do use it and its not as unpopular as people think.

IE used to copy Firefox and now it is copying Chrome? I found that in older versions opening a new tab cost far more memory than opening a new window. I don't know why but it's one of the many things that turned me away from IE.
I like Chrome, I have rarely used Opera but I might download it seeing as you have such high reviews of it. I currently use Firefox, simply because it is pre-installed on ubuntu.

I remember trying IE 8 to see if IE had improved since 6...

When clicking "new tab" used 100% CPU for 10 seconds I found out.

I use Firefox atm, because I like the UI and the context menus. It does use a lot of memory, but it doesn't leak for me, and it's fast!

I like chrome too, but the menus don't suit me.

Yeah, the memory is the problem with firefox. I think the addon support vastly outweighs that tho, only because my comp has 4 (3) gigs of ram. If I was working on anything without excess ram I'd probably switch to chrome (and then find separate IRC/FTP/adblock applications)

Well, I've found IE9 to be infinitely superior to IE8. Enough that I don't cringe trying to use it. I dig firefox, and am really liking 4.0 so far. Chrome though is how I do internet. The way I browse would be stupid in IE, Firefox would hate me, etc.

Frankly, I want a Chrome Netbook, because then I could have all the functionality I want when I'm portable, and THEN when I'm sitting down I can go to my docked modestly powerful laptop to try and kill my computer with Photoshop, heavily modded games, DB programming, etc.

I really like the whole Google setup, and the Mentality that the internet is your computer. A netbook like that would replace so many things for me....

I have it. A Google Netbook Tablet, with an offline mode, say it stores the content of your Gmail account or something on itself, and syncs. That would replace every device I need to carry around, including pants. I could just leave a pants tab open. Most everything else are things I don't need on me all the time.

Lol. Sorry. I in general really like a lot of the ideals Google has. The internet is a physical space when you use Google Chrome. Unsure if that makes sense, but Chrome changed the way I browsed the internet, how I thought of it.

I've been against FF since the first day it was released. I find it way too slow, but as far as memory usage goes, the past year or so I find it to be very efficient when compared to other browsers if you have a lot of tabs open. With 4GB in my system, I'm not concerned with memory usage much anymore so I'll stick with the speedier Chrome or Opera. But like you, I have them all installed for web development, despite companies saying they're only interested in spending time to make things work for IE only.

I still preffer IE. Its pretty much a industry standard and supported everywhere you go. Plus when IE breaks, it takes 5 mins to fix. If FF breaks, prepare to uninstall and reinstall. Which I think is a crock of crap if you have to reinstall to fix a web browser. Seriously, it has one basic job. Surf the web.

There a huge number of websites that do not support IE, simply because of how terribly incompatable it is. Some big website recently stopped their extra programming to get it to work in IE, was it youtube? I can't remember.

Depends what breaks.

Ditto. I can't think of many programs that don't require a reinstall every now and again, if just for the sake of upkeep.

Not really that basic a job if you think about it.

I think the best thing about IE is that you can actually disable it in windows 7. You can download a browser, then ACTUALLY get rid of IE

Just opening IE will not get you a virus If you browse to trusted sites then you'll have no issues.

Well I'm skeptical on the whole Silverlight front on the basis that there is already wide acceptance of Java and Flash amongst other standards and there's WebGL to look forward to in the future. It just seems to me that Silverlight is a futile attempt by Microsoft to jump on the Web-App bandwagon. Also the main drawback i can see between Silverlight and other platforms is the platforms they work on, so far i have only seen the official Silverlight plugin for Windows and Mac web browsers and I have not heard of anyone using Silverlight on a mobile phone or tablet yet or any other device which has native support for both Java and Flash.

End of line.

IE9? Throw it into the trash... It's still as slow as a wombat's brain. I've never used Chrome, and I like Opera, but Firefox has some things Opera doesn't, that's why I run Firefox.
