Hello all, Recently with college drawing near I realize I have to stop shot gunning over all the aspects of game making, In the past I've worked hard to raise my skills in all of the aspects in game making from modeling, to animation, to programming, to level design. But recently I've realized I need to focus more on one subject, and while I'm still going to be shot gunning my abilities I want to be more focused on one area. So I'm either going to focus on the visual aspects (Modeling, Animating, Level design) Or Programming aspects of gaming.. But this is a very hard decision for me..So I would like your guys' help with it!!

I love modeling! I love seeing my work as I do it, I love being able to create anything I want right there in front of me. I love level design and animation as well because it kind of makes my modeling skills come to life. But modeling pays a lot less than Programming.

I love programming because I can see myself making many different things with programming, Different applications, websites, text games and even small games, by my self. Programmers also get paid more than Designers because of a shortage in Designers.

So I'm kinda at a cross roads here..I know you can't tell me what to do, but any opinions of yours will help! Thanks!!

Well its still kinda early to decide on what you wanna do, I say you should try everything. Learning stuff for fun and doing it for a hobby because you like doing it, is a lot more different than actually working in that field. I thought i liked doing computer stuff and i really do. but the pressure from my superiors at work kinda ruined this experience and working independentley isnt getting me enought money. So i am actually thinking of getting into realestate field as its very profitable. I couldnt imagine even going into realestate 3 years ago. so life is really what you make of it and how you look at it. just look at your options and you will find that thare are a lot of options out there beyong collage. It might be different where you live but In russia, just my knowledge of english and an IT certificate is good enough to get me a decent job in this field. Infact good Certificates are worth more than collage education around here and a lot cheaper too. I am thinking of getting a few. Maybe a microsoft certificate or a PC BSD. So just look around closley look for hidden opportunities. Sometimes all it takes is knowing the right person to get a good spot under the sun.

I would go with programming because I think there's alot more flexibility there, you have alot of career choice and are likely to earn more money.

if you are anything like me then you proboly hate programming unless its for your own fun game or project in which case you still hate it but the satisfaction of getting something to work is totally worth it.

Thanks PAGAN but I couldn't imagine doing anything else for a living and maybe you're right maybe I'll end up doing something else, but for right now I'm going with this, Programming isn't so bad, I just like the feeling of looking at something I've created and thinking "Wow..I created that!" and with Modeling that's more of an instant satisfaction. I'm probably going with programming. But I'm not making a final decision just yet!
