Quote: "You can still test your app locally by using the AppGameKit player, this will allow you to test your app on ios devices without having to go to the store. You download the FREE AppGameKit Player from the apple store and you broadcast games from your IDE on the PC to the ios device to see if it works."

I see that Rick has announced that the first of the AppGameKit players has been approved, and it is available for Mac users.

I am confused about the "players"... are they simply smart phone emulators, so we can see on our PC what it will look like on the phone?

Where can I get more information about the AppGameKit players?

Will a player for PC's be out before August 15th?

Thanks

It is my understanding that the players support Tier 1 testing.

For example:

Go to the appropriate app store for your device and download the player.

Run the player on your device. The player waits until you compile, run and broadcast your Tier 1 code wirelessly from your development PC.

This way you don't need to get a testing certificate for your device and worry about any SDKs.

Thanks guys !! So the solution for me would be to buy an iPod touch *new generation* (because I don't wanna buy an iPhone or I'll have to subscribe for *nearly* 37 € per month to a mobile Phone operator... etc... I don't want it...).

I've read the specifications of the last iPod Touch VS iPhone 4 and, to me, it does the same things when it comes to play video games ...
So it should work with AppGameKit, and with AppGameKit Player the same way as an iPhone ??

am I right ?

Yes, the Ipod Touch is an IPhone without all electronics needed
to make call.
you can play all games, music and video from Apple Store.

You can buy the 8Gb Ipod touch that is the least expensive.

there are rumors about new Iphone (released in september/october) less expensive.
I don't know if will be released also a new version of Ipod.

I have a stupid question, after the 15th can I sell my games? (Samsung Apps, App Store, etc.), how can I take profits? users need to install the player for that would play games created with AppGameKit tools?

Sorry for my English.
This is not my native language.

Hi Nokiaqd,

as far as I understand how AppGameKit works you can sell your games but to get them to the different stores you'll need:

- Subscription (Apple - $99 per year, AppUp etc.)
- for iOS - a Mac to compile natively (through XCode)
(this has nothing to do with TGC, it's a requirement of the different platforms)

The "player" is only for testing purposes. You code your game/app then send it through wifi connection to all test machines. If you're satisfied with the result you have to compile it to the different platforms. You won't need the "player" for that.

On 15th we'll see how that works on other platforms (Bada etc.)

Life is good!

Hubdule, thanks for the reply.
As far as I understand from your words I can not write a mini game "AGK Tier 1" and sold them directly to the App Store - that's understandable.

I am interested - Sell Now the game as it says in first post
"TGC will offer a publishing route so you can publish via TGK"

Yes, you can sell your AppGameKit Tier 1 apps directly to the stores.

TGC is working right now on the exact processes you'll have to go through to get an app ready for stores like Intel AppUp, Apple, and Samsung.

I am not familiar with Apps when it comes to servers. If you want player data to be saved on a server, do you have to create the server software and run it on your own server and code the app to talk directly to it? The FAQ mentioned "Server apps", so is that like the app store serves as your server or...?

Also, are there plans to "Deploy to Facebook" or "Deploy to Java"?

An AppGameKit app can only communicate with another AppGameKit app for right now. I'm hoping they make it so AppGameKit can talk with other things like a DBPro app using DarkNet. We'll have to wait and see what they add later on.

For now, the server app would have to be written in AppGameKit, and hosted on your own server.

OK, so the server app must be an AppGameKit project compiled to windows exe and ran on your own server. Sounds fine.

I have a game idea already in mind, but without D3D_Func or Matrix, I fear I will have to get really creative with my coding...

You'll do fine. It's very easy to put something together in AGK.

Approval for the iOS player may take anything from a few days to several weeks.

Camera's are more 3D, currently, AppGameKit is 2D only.

@darzon
To move the "2D camera" your can use the SetViewOffset(x,y) command. There is an example in the example called "Sprites - ScrollingSprites".
Maybe this is what you are looking for.

You can't in tier 1, but in tier 2 you can use the normal Windows commands such as ShowCursor( FALSE ).

Is it possible to create something like FPSCreator, where you use an editor to create games? Asking this because I've been working on something in DBPro and some are asking if I could make a version that runs on other platforms.

It's entirely possible. I've been working on a level editor in AppGameKit all week. It outputs a file that names the image file used for the sprite, it's scale, rotation, position, mass, physics, and depth.

ummm....with sprites, how can we define a custom transparency color like the DBP command set image colorkey?
if we can't, then what is the default? I have compared some of the example sprites which look to be white (255,255,255), but when I use this for my own sprite, it doesn't work...I'm using MS paint by the way - maybe that's the problem?

Hey mr_d, the images (.png files) have a transparency layer, which turns opaque when loaded in MS Paint (the version that comes with the OS). You'd better use another graphics program, like Gimp or Paint.net, which both are free, btw.
Hope this helps you going?

Cheers

Hi all,

there will be a server service to compile and receive back the binary from a TGC Mac machine?

Another SDK i used in the past use this kind of feature.
But is not at AppGameKit level with functions and method.
If you do this kind of service, you will be the best SDK for mobiles in the world.

Any info about this?
