I'm curious as to which game people would think would be cooler to play. I'm currently nearing completion on my Space Squadron game for Android. Once completed, I have two options - work on another Android game, or continue my RPG. The decision will probably be based on the financial success of Space Squadron.

If I do go down the Android route, I have two game ideas which I both really like, and I wonder which one people think they'd enjoy playing the most on their phone. Both would be 2D games.

1. Road Rash style bike racer. I'd implement the same parallax style scrolling road for high speed racing, and some sort of combat. I think this is doable on a handset. I may use tilt sensors for steering then on screen buttons for combat.

2. An XCOM style turn based strategy game, but my twist would be zombie survival. Control a small squad in an isometric XCOM style zombie apocalypse. Attempt to work through missions which tell a story of this squad trying to get to a sanctuary somewhere, killing zombies, holding up in buildings etc.

These are just ideas at this point. Which one do you think would be the most exciting to have on your handset?

I'd love to play the zombie game - but only if it was really gritty, and also long term. Road rash was fun, but there are tons and tons of racing games on phones now, and your chances of getting a slice of the market are slim. On the other hand, I love to have a game where I'd control a small squad in a zombie apocalypse, and be able to come back every now and then to move them on (i.e each games lasts days, weeks, months maybe).

Why not combine them, zombies on bikes

Yeah, zombie apocalypse road rash ... where the zombies ride the bikes to kill the humans .......

I totally agree. I've wanted to make a zombie apocalypse game for years. I love XCOM, I love turn based, I love squad combat. This is what I've wanted to develop for a long time, but I'm worried about the market for that sort of game on a handset.

I agree that racing games are all over the place though, so the market niche would be smaller, but taken side by side, I think there'd be more casual players up for a road rash style game.

Still curious as to what others think.

that just sounds the nuts. lol

why not have bikes that you can ride on/pick up along the way, and ride around attacking zombies, I also like the idea of a squad or team base game, so you could have a team fighting on foot wile you go ahead and clear the path of though the zombies, if I remember a baseball bat and chains were the weapon of choice in road rash, so you could elaborate on that.

maybe the goal of the game is to clear the path just so the team can get though, you could have air strikes like in streets of rage, which your team could bring to the fight, plus you could upgrade your weapons and bike, as well as the player, but don't get knocked off your bike or the zombies start hordes at your position, and you could get off the bike when ever you want, fight face to face, and call for back up from your team.

turn base may be tricky for a game with a bike in, so ever go with a bike in your game or drop the idea of bikes or turn based game.

I hope this helped

I do like the idea or merging the two.
The way I would do it is split the game in two; have the turn based section when you are on foot at a location, and have the bikes (and other vehicles?) in real time when you are traveling between locations.

I don't know XCom games, but if I was making this I'd require the squad to scavenge for food, fuel, vehicles, spare parts, weapons and ammo.
So they'd have to travel all over to find enough supplies to survive and wipe out the zombies.

Everything worthwhile requires effort.
