hi, i am new here

i have a question, what equipment would I need to produce a half decent movie?

i do have the software sorted out, i am just after information about cameras, mics, etc

I am thinking about getting a sony handycam off ebay for about $800 (australian). it does full-hd and has good reviews. the model is HDR-XR500

i am not after top of the range equipment, but it must be reasonably priced and have decent quality. I don't worry about what brand it is.
is there any other equipment I would need (apart from a microphone)

thanks in advance

Hi Tree

More details on what sort of video... as this will help to decide what types of lights, flash kits for still photos, tripods, locations, transport kits(bags, boxes, trolley etc)

No two production is ever the same, unless your doing the next episode of (whatever typical food in studio show) or something lol

So the best advice can only come with more details... Out-door documentary? In-door setting mainly? night filming? or all of the above and more... also in regards to the stills thats like during production for you to have a stills album for like artwork for promotion etc or a special extra bit ^^ gotta cherish the memories. also budgets, small, medium, high, or unlimited ^^.

I guess you got the gist now... hope this helped anyhow

Regards

Seems like you will require a very good lighting kit, do not underestimate the importance of lighting a scene...

Cool, is it a business project? college/uni project? personal interest project? youtube project? or?

Nice, and I take it your in AUS right?

hmm, you will need a camera that you can use filter plates on, shoot the scenes with the actual filter on, as if you do it in post-process you will not achieve the same quality you are aiming for... I reckon you will need a strong Sepia filter for most night shoots, I only vaguely remember S.T.A.L.K.E.R tbh I never got to grips past 5 minutes... no idea why... guess it just was not visually compelling for me... however game aside, I did love its concept and thats the whole point of a story , games in my opinion are just vessels for a great story we use the games to participate in the given story.

(hope that doesnt sound too, off in any way... dont mean to sound negative... lol just feel I might be sounding a little negative... but I have had a migraine for 3 weeks now and im very sleepy... ^^)

Some decent video editing / sound mixing software and as many terabytes of HD space as you can wrangle up.
