Hi all, i just purchased MC Beta about 2 hours ago, but the first thing i noticed is that it lags very badly. The classic online didnt do this, and the classic was set to short rendering and the purchased version is on tiny and still lags worse:/ Hahah hope that made sense. Please help! It is nearly unplayable with this. I have no other processes running either... I have tried both the online and downloaded versions, both are pretty bad. Is this because of the animated lava and water? It happens even when those aren't near. Is there some setting to make things run smoother?

Here are my specs:

2.1 ghz dual core pentium t4300
4gb ram
intel mobile 4 express chipset family

Thanks for your help!

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

You could try changing the graphics option from Fancy to Fast.

Go to menu and set it to fast. Also this.

Fast was already set, the mod seemed to help a little bit. I guess i notice it most and still do when i go up mountains, not really any other times... Thanks!

On those forums there are 3 mods which improve FPS, Optimine, one that changes chunk saving method and another. And minecraft seems to have alot with intel GPU's, so you might wanna look into a dedictated GPU. But I'm not sure on that last one

It's a common misconception that since Minecraft has simple graphics, it must be able to run on old computers... That's not entirely true, although the style is very old-school, it does require relatively modern hardware to play. I'd recommend downloading Optimine.

It's very inefficient. My Netbook can't run it due to it's integrated GPU, however you can get a dedicated one that'll run it well for about £15.

I know this, but Minecraft classic would run at normal distance at about 20 fps. good enough for me. So why is the beta any different??

Because the beta has shedloads more programming behind it. You're forgetting - classic is lego, beta has dynamic lighting, day/night cycles, AI routines, blocks that act and change based on the environment, tools, crafting, a health system...

...Essentially a very, very large shedload more in it than classic. Once you get a decent chance to play Beta online, you'll understand just how stellar it is in comparison.

Well kinda found a solution: I maximize the screen, that lowers the FPS further but makes it less noticeable. Strange huh? Lol!

When you are playing Beta Singleplayer Survival it will generate the terrain chunks in realtime as you walk and look around, this can make the game run slow.

Generally you should set your graphics to fast and your render distance to tiny. I found when I had my old PC that it worked quite well.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

A few things I do, the next step is used if the previous didn't work:

- maximize minecraft
- restore minecraft
- log out, back on
- restart
- power off, power on
- reinstall minecraft or java
- call Bill Gates about it

Loging out and in kinda helped, yet to try power on and off Hope there is no need to call Bill Gates Nah, that'd be cool.
