With all the bad weather here in the states, I waited over a week for the suspension parts for my truck. They finally showed up, now it's time to finally get away from my computer and turn some wrenches.

Any one else have a project vehicle or a vehicle they are in love with?

Tell me about it. This is the kind of stuff where my tech roots branched from.

[Really? No one?]

well i have no vehicle, however, my house outside of the city needs some serios work. The thing was built in 1950s for the purpose of being sold so it was built very low quality. the region is swampy, and because the bacement isnt deep enough, the house gets seriosly deformed during winter when the underground frozen water is pushing the house out of the ground. It was especially bad this winter when the weather was extra cold, the walls got really deformed, wallpaper cracked in many places, part of the ceiling cement fell off, the roof in the kitchen is leaking. and i need to replace the gas boiler. I am seriosly doubting my abilities on this work, especially the roof. I can replace the roof sheets no problem, but the thing is, the wooden supports under my roof proboly rotted away and i am afraid, i will also need to completley replace the roof structure. The house also needs some modernization as back in 1950s it was built as a summerhouse with no communications. eventually my grandma connected it to a gas pipeline, then the phone, and i recentley hooked up the house to the internet. you can still live there if you overlook a few comforts like lack of drinkable water and sewers (we go to the outhouse to poop. in the winter it can be cold but it makes your body more resiliant to cold lol)

we built a well from where we pump our water, but the well was so badly built, (maybe just not deep enough but it definatley left holes in between the rings) the water we get from it is all muddy and will need an expensive filtering sytem to make it drinkable. and hooking it up to a waterline would be very expensive.

i also need to make the bacement of the house deeper (replace the bacement 1 small section at a time) that would proboly be an expensive job. at least it will keep the house from falling apart. also even tho we have a fairly new fence, i really want to replace it with a better fence made of something solid, like bricks or concrete. preferably have barbed wire running along it. Our house was robbed plenty of times in the past, its just getting annoying, fixing the fence every time they riped off a few boards making a hole they can crawl trough. Or last time they tried to break in with a crowbar breaking the lock on my oak door. they failed as the neighbors dog scared them away (i love that dog ^-^) but they left the door and the lock so bent and deformed (could tell they had a hard time trying to break in) couldnt even open the door after them. i had to finish breaking the lock to open the door. But the door itself was damaged to the point where its pretty much impossible to install any new locks. so to prevent any more burglaries, i need to have someone constantly live there.

sometimes i am wondering if it would be cheaper and more worthwhile to just take down the old house and build a new better quality one. even if i do repair the old house, its still a crappy 50 yo house which will fall apart eventually. my repairworks will proboly buy it 10 more years and thats assuming nothing else breaks
