Thought some people here would find this interesting and want to vote if they didn't know already..

Quote: "The Art of Video Games exhibition will explore the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers. We want you to help us select the eighty video games that will be represented in the exhibition. Remember, this is an art exhibition, so be sure to vote for games that you think are visually spectacular or boast innovative design! "

You can pick 80 games from a pool of 240 for inclusion in the exhibit.

It is, I think he was really just putting in his opinion on it. And honestly, I'm in the same boat as him. While I enjoy playing Black Ops myself, I don't really think that artistically it brought anything extraordinary to the table...

I haven't played Black Ops. Art is subjective, but here they have a democratic vote on what art is better than other art, so this is not an appropriate place to debate it, it all counts on votes anyway in the end of the day.

I'm pretty impressed by the game list. As a gamer who has lived through ALL of these eras, there are some good choices.

For Colecovision, I remember being shocked by the graphics in the Smurf: Rescue from Gargamels Castle game. For the NES, Megaman 2 was the visual high point for that console. Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, definitely. And I'm glad Bioshock made the modern era's list.

One game that I thought was slighted was for the Gamecube - I'm kinda surprised RE4 didn't make the list - that game was a visual stunner when it came out.

actually there were lots of games that i was suprised didnt make it for different eras... for gamecube re4 is a definate but also metriod prime and metriod prime 2... (Metriod prime more so...) metriod prime and re4 were voted the top games for game cube during their time.

Metroid Prime 2: Echos is on the list. Under the "action" genre. The layout is kinda weird....

just to answer all the black ops/mw haters, especially those saying it isnt artistic in any matter

MW2s singel player was extremely well played, in so many ways.
the graphics were extremely well made, very very pleasing to my eyes, not at all hard for my eyes even though things were flying, stuff were exploding everywhere aso.
Also it was very well optimized as with every other cod game.
as for the SP, I personally havent played it through but I believe it brought up many many feelings for me, especially the part when you were litterarily slaughtering innocents, just wandering through hundreads of dead civilians, just to kill the bad guy.
Just to then be killed off yourself. Meaning all those civilians YOU slaughtered were slaughtered for no apparant reason.
(now ofc you can wander through it not killing anyone, but thats not what the mission is made for.)
I also find watching this one very very touching:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgowVSSVXFY&feature=related
I personally believe the story is overall very well played out, and very well acted.
I think if you are saying that CoD MW2 isnt artistically pleasing, then you have either not played the storyline...
Or maybe you are simply emotion-less? Because thats pretty much what this game is about, the emotions. There is SO much more to CoD MW 2 than the actual shooting.

How can you have an opinion if you haven't played it through?

That wasn't emotive though. You massacre a bunch of nameless generics, what you spent the entire game doing before and after doing, the only difference being the absence of fire back at you, 'til the FSB show up.

The story was just overly silly. So Russia would exert billions of dollars to invade and burn America...because some terrorists shot up an airport?

Now HL2:Ep2, Eli's death was meaningful. It was out of the blue, and a character that had been built up throughout the series to the point where you cared about him. CoD 4 had a great ending because the characters were similarly well built and developed through the story. Even Mass Effect let you learn about the companions you gathered,
This was absent in Black ops and MW2 though.

Art isn't about looking pretty, if so, Crysis must be Da Vinci. Besides, Black Ops is terrible in terms of material quality and general looks compared to MW2 anyway, it's a definite step back.

I don't hate Black Ops, or anything. It's just success isn't always quality. People bought it because it had Call of Duty on the case, not because they believed it'd be a life changer, just another game in which to earn bragging rights by being a Prestige 15 quickscoper.

I cant, I was only merely judging on how far i have come into the game. And on the video, which is the end scene.

That is up to each of their own isnt it? I personally believe it being very emotional, and extremely disturbing.
Because we all react to things differently.

but then, i believe than in MW2 u do get to know that guy... UUUUGHHH whats his name? when u play as roach or w/e his name is.. anyway i believe u get to knwo him pretty well.

I never claimed it was. I was merely saying that it does look good.
Also, there are different types of art, a picture for example, if a picture looks bad, then there is obviously not that much of a great piece of art. As with all kinds of graphical art. If it isnt pleasing to the eyes, then i simply reject it and move on in life.
But then again, art isnt ONLY about being graphically pleasing, but being graphically pleasing surely helps a lot when looking at a picture, game or movie.
This might have gotten a bit messy

I had the hard decision between fallout 3 and WoW.

I prefer FO3 but WoW i think affected the industry just as much if not more than FO3.

I'm not a fan of WoW, but I'll agree it pretty much invented MMOs.

I can't think of an MMO that doesn't try to rip off WoW.

Regardless if you are on the band wagon or off there are plenty of games that had the right combination of features and popularity that landed them a spot in the list you vote on... no use arguing here... duke it out with votes. I honestly dont care for COD anything but just because i dont doesnt mean that it wasnt successful in some way or another. WOW is no exception. People can bash it all day long but its popularity shows its greatness in design. I personally cant stand WOW either... but i cant deny that it has a certain appeal. As a company blizzard has grown rampantly since warcraft. I can remember playing that game and way its popularity grew with each installment.
