I've recently been browsing and discovered chiptune and instantly love it. So far my favourite piece of chiptune music so far is "fly" by eric chiptune.

Has anyone else heard of this genre? and are there any fans who know of any bands to look up?

I'm not a great fan of chiptune but I have a couple of friends who listen to it and they keep telling me that Fanta is great I've listened a couple of his (her/its?) songs and I gotta admit I liked them.

It sounds like old computer game music. I couldn't listen to this for too long or I'd go mad, It's not bad I just don't like repetitive music.

[edit]
Ah strobe is much better than the other one, reminds me of Master System games

This is some sort of "Tech-chip" stuff which is one of the few chiptune styles I love.

Everyone must know this game

I really like the style, though I don't think I'd listen to it as a substitute for real music.

No kidding?

It's just so epic.. In the game you've cornered the murderer with hard evidence, and right at the moment when you are shouting your last incrimating evidence, you shout...

OBJECTION!!!

And this brilliant song starts to play

So much win indeed.

... honestly im not so sure i understand whats so great about it. One thing that gets to be cool about writing elecrtonic music is synth instraments and creating them... These seem to me like pure sequenced midi... when i write electronic music... this is usually what i want to avoid... not my goal. Simple music as such is really the product of hardware limitations... Im not so sure that its cool to emulate a hardware disadvantage when writing music.

I think this is a fad... and will pass.

Yeah, chiptune is actually pretty old, you guys came late on the game. This was big back in the day, but it seems to have died and I have to agree with Primal, there cool novelty songs or remix's, but as "original songs", there nothing really amazing. It's like making an entire song from pots and pans, sure it's cool one or two times as an artistic piece, but I wouldn't make a genre out of something so centered.

Go on...click the bar to enter a world of awesome.

I prefer the old C64 and ST stuff, like those Ocean Loaders, and Rob Hubbard... especially this one:

Ironically it probably takes a bit of processor power to play that style of music on the PC, but on the C64 and ST, it was all programmed on the sound chip, the music file was actually more like a little program.

I genuinely like how it sounds, for me few other styles of music can make me feel such a genuine emotion, and that's because it's so simple, I've never really liked complex music,

@Juzi
I can't seem to find fanta on youtube or spotify, have your friends got any links?

Well I couldn't find any fast paced Fanta songs either but I've attached some songs made by my musician friend Noby.

Hope you like Michael Jackson

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.
