well the latest game i was making was going to have audio recorded from the people in black hawk studios, problem is its a sausagefest,so i was going to have a girlfriend do the female voices, but now were not talking, wat would u guys think if a great game was released, with a great story, awesome scripts, and tons of custom models, but the only thing was that it didnt include any voice audio, instead it had captions from who was saying it? and every now and then i released an update that gave the game audio

then don't call it a "patch" but a "voice pack" addon or something similar. i'd code the game to check for the audio dialogue (use placeholder voice when coding) and play it, if present. even include a "audio dialogue" option/check box in settings but keep it greyed out if none exist on release (and keep subtitles "On" and greyed out to make sure the user always has SOME dialogue present). anyway, i think that would work out ok.

meanwhile,

i wouldn't trickle the audio out; make it available when it's complete. as above, release the game when you're ready and work on compiling the "voice pack" while squashing any bugs that reveal themselves.

add: just checked your post history here; i didn't realize you were talking about FPSC so dunno if the above offering is possible for you. then again, maybe you've started coding so i'll let the post stand.

What i meant was.. i wouldn't attempt to program a patch like that. :p theres no telling what could go wrong if you release a patch that adds a completely new feature to a game, unless you're pretty experienced.

i think voice dialogue could have a great effect on how good your game seems. It probs won't affect gameplay, but with thte current market gameplay doesn't seem to be a big deal (which is upsetting 'cause almost all games as of late have been lame).
As people have said though program it so that it WOULD use the sound files if they existed and not if otherwise and just release an update when/if you do get the voices done.

If it's fpsc, I just wouldn't worry about it too much...not trying to be mean in the direction of fpsc, just honest.

I'd say wait. How hard can it be to find a replacement? You don't have to be sleeping with her to get her to talk.

don't understand if the problem is:

a) no girl want to record something for you, maybe because she can start thinking you're a maniac. you can ask to your sister or your mother for this.

b) you're downhearted because you're not with your "ex".

anyway, for me the problem don't exist, english spoked dialogue always sounds like fly buzz for my ears. i like games with italian dialogue! (oh, don't tell us...)

for one i have no sis, no way i can get my mother to say any of that stuff, also im thinking i shouldnt have included the whole girl thing, its too personal, my final conclusion is that i will wait, game first, story afterwards, well be more productive that way, also my computer wont have to suffer my forgetfullness to close other software, wish me luck guys, if i finish i will guarantee you will all love it

i often wonder how one might guarantee such things.

regardless, has anyone tried to use their own voice for all voice acting and then used software (ie, audacity, etc) to get what they need re: male, female, variations, etc? i've imagined it being possible (with decent results) but haven't tested for myself. anyone?

If it is holding up progress.. I say stalk her with a digital voice recorder then clip the recordings together the way you need them to be. Just my opinion though.

*Disclaimer, I am not responsible for you going to jail for stalking your ex-girlfriend if you actually do this.

well i have before and it turned to a disaster mainly because of the confusion of trying to be multiple people, you can forget how their supposed to sound and players tend to get confused, its best to use friends

Just go to fiverr and pay a female 'voice actor' there $5 to record whatever dialog you need her to say for your game. Character dialog is something that shouldn't have to come later in a DLC. Even if you are talking about an FPS Creator game, it's only five bucks...

Kick one of the guys in nuts at the studio and let him do the female voice, or find a 12yr old on vent

Fixed for an easier place to look...every other round I played on Halo 3 I seemed to be matched in with some kid whose gender I was unsure of getting yelled at by their parents and/or siblings...
