Can't find a 3d gamemaker forum so I'm gonna toss this in here, according to a forum search this is where other people have posted it

Anyways can't get 3dgm to run. After the 2 splash screens I just get a black screen with some tinklery sfx in the backgeound after that the program becomes unresponsive. I Have tried vista patch, uninstall and reinstall, compatibility mode, run as amin.

Any ideas? (I'm running vista home 32bit, 3gb ram and an ATI mobility radeon HD 3450 graphics card.

Unfortunately there is no official 3DGM board, so yeah here will do.

Have you tried installing Direct X 9.0c? It won't come pre-installed on vista or windows 7 (as Direct X 10 isn't backwards compatible), so you'll have to download and install it from the Microsoft website.

Doing so will not remove the Direct X 10 install, it'll just add all the Direct X 9 libraries as well as the DX 10 ones.

Thanks, but direct x 9.0c just says the following when trying to install:

directx setup wrote: "direcrx setup has determined that a newer or equivelent version of directx has already been installed. No installation is necessary."

Hmmm Maybe you already have it installed. Have you tried running the program in administrator mode? Or backwards compatibility mode to see if that fixes the problem?

Yep. Done that. I'm sure I've used it on Vista before so could there be something wrong with the instal file? Maybe the disc got scratched or something.

I have the sdk installed from june 2010 and from what i can see i have everything i need for 9.0 , 10.0 , and 11.0 Im not so sure that the distributable is the same way but i think it might stand to reason? I know this doesnt hlp you but i think that these three versions are designed to coexist together. (more often then not though im wrong... lol)

The 3D Game Maker is using DirectX 6.1 (according to Amazon), so you may have to install these old SDK's as well, and since it was originally designed on and for Windows 2000 / 95 / 98, it maybe won't work anymore nowadays.

Then try to run it in compatible mode for win 95 / 98 or 2000 Then it should work.
