In swiss cheese with holes more cheese means more holes. An more hols means less cheese. So does more cheese mean less cheese? Feel the headache

No. The size of the holes remains constant, so imagine the amount of cheese taken away by holes as a percentage of the whole cheese. More cheese is still more cheese, because as the amount of cheese increases, the holes do take away more cheese physically, but still take away the same percent out of the whole cheese.

the proportion of the holes will always be less than that of the cheese, therefore while more holes = less cheese, more cheese= still more cheese with more holes. Lets say holes take up 1/5 of the cheese. so 5 cubic cm of cheese=1 cubic cm of hole(s) leaving 4 cubic cm of puure cheese. Lets add more cheese to the equasion. take 50 cm^3 of cheese. If holes take up 1/5 of the cheese, it will leave us with 40cm^3 of cheese and 10 cm^3 of holes, even if the proportion of holes was bigger say, 2/5 of the cheese, that would still leave us with 30cm^ of cheese vs 4cm^3 of cheese=(5cm with a hole) so while the presence of holes does diminish the amount of puuure cheese, it does not proove that more cheese= less cheese. more cheese will always be more cheese as long as the consistancy and proportion of holes are more or less the same. Infact the only way the holes could make more cheese into less cheese is if with increased amount of cheeese, the proportion/consistancy of holes are greatly increased.... by like 50% or more depending on the proportion/ consitancy of holes.

like lets say we have 100cm of cheese with 10 cm of holes, leaving 90 cm of puuuure cheese, if we increase the amount of cheese to 200 cm the holes should be big enough to leave less than 90cm of cheese. so we will have to make it a wopping 120cm of holes in a 200 cm of cheese, leaving only 80 cm of puuure cheese vs the original 90 cm. In this case more cheese= less cheese

I don't care what anybody else says, my opinion is that anything divided by 0 is infinity, so, (1/0)*(1/0) is infinity times infinity xD so if you work it out in fraction form, it's still infinity :p

It's a concept. If I'm not mistaken, to travel at the speed of light, at any mass greater than no mass at all, would require infinite energy. In my opinion it's still a way of quantifying something, which is all numbers really are.

If you do the work out for 1/0, you'll find that it equals positive and negative infinity. You can't really quantify something that's positive and negative at the same time.

How so? How many zeros go into 1, you'd answer infinity, not minus infinity. Obviously if you can show me the math that works I'll happily admit I'm wrong.

You still arrive at separate answers.
So sqr(9) * sqr(9) = 3 * 3; 3 * -3; -3 * 3; -3 * -3.
The same thing happens with (1/0)*(1/0). My point is that there is no definite answer, just possibilities.

Yeah, this always confused me too. It's 3.33333333333333 etc, which means in theory there's a 4 at the end somewhere... we just can't get there. And 0.99999999999 etc is the same as 1 ... except it's not.

Yes we can. It's called:

1/3

If you don't want to write it with fractions, you can write it as:

0.1

in ternary. Or

0.3

in base-9. Or

1

in base-1/3.

Well, regardless of your opinion, anything divided by 0 is undefined.

Regardless of how unintuitive it seems, 0.999... = 1, 1/0 is undefined, and so on and so forth.

I disagree. 1 ton = 1 ton; obviously. Too easy. Either it's not a riddle at all (not much of one anyway) or there's more to it. Something we're missing. Something you may have overlooked but I aim to figure out. Now, let's work together on this one...what color was the bus driver's hair? And again, what happened to the feathers? The first time, it's feathers, and then it's birds. Feathers come from birds, birds don't come from feathers. Shouldn't the birds have come first? Is this a spinoff on the chicken or the egg thing?

while on the subject of math and infinty and things, my friends showed me a simple little trick that had us debating for a while

its sort of prove that 0.99999recuring does infact equal 1



I know its a bit different but it really confused me and we never got to an answer and someone here might be able to explain why not.

but saying

0.9999 recurring is infinitely close to 1, every significant figure gets it 10 times closer, if there are an infinite number of decimal places it is infinitely close therefore it must be equal to 1 as that's as infinitely close as you can get.
