I honestly support a PM system. The forums are nice and all, but they are severely outdated as stated. I mean, we're living in 2011, not 2001.
How is getting PM's from annoying people any different than email? I know that I myself only check my email once or twice a day, simply because most of the time I'm online I spend on forums or working on code projects, using things like MSN to keep contact. Email is outdated. I know it's only really been popular for the last 12 years or so, but in terms of how fast the web has been moving forward it's an old technology that should have been replaced years ago. Quite honestly, more people visit Facebook now than anything. I don't want to see Facebook integration though, that's just bad business right there. Anytime I see a company that says "login with Facebook", a little part of me dies inside because Facebook will one day suffer the same fate that MySpace did.
Anyway, a PM system would be more beneficial than not. Sometimes people don't even include ways to contact them, at that point people make threads asking certain users to give them an email and whatnot.
I think give or take, it's more laziness than it is a real "problem." Often times people would rather not do something and make everyone else annoyed, than to do it and actually reap the benefits.
I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.
