I have been thinking about this for a while...

And i strongly believe BLU-RAY can offer this, and yet they do not bother...

My idea is that, I do enjoy watching a movie multiple times if I enjoyed it the first time, and of course we always notice something new even after the 25th time (same goes for games...) but I have for over 5 years now been thinking isnt there a way or why dont they make a movie with random scenes, so that everytime you play the movie, some not so important scenes (you know just those fill in scenes) get randomly placed into the movie and there is no limit to how many times they can do it, I think this would increase the replay valou of a simple movie ten fold...

I believe the original inspiration for this for me came over 10 years ago from a great game on the PS1, Star Oceon 2: The Second Story, which features over 80 different endings... talk about replay value, I am currently playng it myself and an see why there are so many, I got to the second disk and realised i missed quite a few additional characters along the way, which are only able to join your team if you find them on disk one, without giving out a spoiler you can not for a particular reason go back to the locations on disk 1 to get them... so this is also an interesting concept for any of you working on a rpg, dont make it easy to have special players join your team, make the player earn that player.

Because it would mean filming/creating all those scenes, which would all cost money.

You should go and buy Clue on DVD it can give you one of 3 random endings if you want.

Do you really know anything about filming? and have any idea how much footage gets cut in both the version you watch in the cinema and also the DVD release? ever wondered why they have a so called EXTENDED edition, let me guess, they went out again and filmed some more and spent some more cash...?

EDIT

heh, oh well I sometimes step ahead of myself and assume people know what I know, My bad...

I'm a linear-minded individual, and mostly hate open-ended games. Surely I hate the idea of an "open-ended" movie where the filler scenes are random. When I watch a movie I want to get every single detail, and I enjoy those scenes that are filler. I don't want to feel like I've missed something and have to rewatch a movie again and again just to see the few scenes that weren't there the first time. That sounds like hell!

Yeah I don't like your attitude here. So that's the end of my dealings with you on any part of the forum.

You're being a tool.

EDIT
I often assume people read their own threads when posting. Hmmm... my bad! One would assume adding 'random' scenes wouldn't be scenes that are simply cut from the film...

I did apologise, oh well, I suppose some people can not be helped, tbh I didnt know it was you Thraxas as I am very much zoomed in on screen and only read the post... this wouldnt happen if I wasnt burgled in feb, so regardless of if you make up with me or not I apologise once more, I am not a neg head and never intend to be...

EDIT

I used to have a 42inch screen, now im down to my old side screen which is a 19inch, forgive me for being born blind

EDIT

Umm, yeah they cut a heck of a lot out, so thats why I also thought it would be a good idea to use those cut out bits as fillers for random areas while viewing, sorry for not mentioning this earlier to make it clear whre those bits would be coming from

EDIT

I am over tired too for the very reason I am suffering from difficulty using my pc...

That doesn't diminish his point at all. Additional scenes would still cost additional time and money for the producers; in addition to what was aready invested in the unused footage. And while that unused footage does sometimes wind up in extended movie editions so the producers can get something back for what they already shot, unless there's something in it for them (a higher price tag for you), there's no reason for them to do it.

EDIT: That's not to say it isn't a good idea; I think just about everyone wants more when a movie they enjoyed watching comes to an end; but as far as it adding to the replay value; I don't think it would make much of a difference if you gave them the option to watch all of those additional scenes by menu select because most people wanting more from the movie would just end up watching those extra scenes all at once via menu anyway.

I dont understand this...

EDIT

I think I realise my hot headed response, (however i really didnt see who posted it...) [f**k s**t just realised its 1 min over 12, its my bday ] I have started to feel annoyed about negative posts towards anything positive recently, it just feels like a lot of people dont think of the positives before posting the negatives, my point not being related to here but just in general and it kinda got to me... I am a positive thinking person, and I am yet to come across a task which has never been completed by myself after I faced them all with the positive attitude that I have. phew... I guess i better avoid the forums for a while, all this negative energy gets to me... will return soon maybe after my bday is over, Ciao.

I actually don't believe in telling someone they have a good idea to be nice, when really it's a bad idea. I really do think it's a bad idea!

Random scenes, no, not a good idea. However, I think a choose-your-own-adventure type movie might be interesting. Short animated films for kids like the books used to be. Then again, it would be nice for horror flicks too. "Would you like Katie to run out the back door, or stay in the house and lock herself upstairs?"

I remember the choose your own adventure book series.. they were kind of retarded. I think it takes a certain personality. This is kind of how most games are these days anyway... the details arnt always the same cause there is a human player adding randomness to it. I think movies are movies and games are games and when i feel like watching a movie im not really into anything but watching a story. Games are for were im in the mood for something worth expirimenting with. But thats just were i stand.

I agree the random scenes idea wouldn't work well. There's a reason why editors are paid to take someone's movie and cut it to pieces and remove additional scenes and organise them precisely. The way the scenes hang together and their duration is very important to the flow and watchability of a movie. I think splicing in random scenes would make disjointed personally.

As mentioned above though, a completely different version of the movie, cut in such a way that it tells it from a different perspective would be good though, but it'd have to be selectable from the menu.

It's not a technology issue, as the choose your path thing has been tried before. The challenge would the handling seemingly infinite technicalities of building a none linear story that still makes sense.

Imagine doing this this stuff in movie theaters, it'd be like playing a co-op version of Dragon's Lair

I'm not even remotely interested in the thread, I just felt need to say, I love you Thraxas.

That is all, carry on now.

im back, and also got my shiny new blog running, my banner should link to it, just got it going will begin making posts on it soon when i have interesting things to post, however expect many posts per day on it as I develop my way through my programs and make new stuff and discover new solutions to new problems (new to me not exactly new to everybody) hope it comes to good use eventually...

eitherway I suppose my point in this thread has gone amiss, but I do believe it will kick back up eventually and it has been used several times in the past just in a different form of what I am proposing... and its only for real movie enthusiasts I suppose and I wasnt meaning EVERY movie just the ones where it would be nice to have a little randomness, I think randomness is what makes life so enjoyable... I could go on to mention my adventure in CHina back in 2007 here, but would rather leave that for my blog ^^

How is everybody anyway?
