April 3D Compo: "We love Sports!"

This time around we want you to draw upon 'Sports' for your inspiration. Anything to do with Sports, It can be anything from a small piece of equipment to a full stadium or something that just screams 'Sports!'. It's time to test your 3D Athletic abilities.

Just two rules this time around..

Rule 1: The more we want to scream Sports!, the better your chances will be of winning one of the prized accolades this month.

Rule #2: Have fun!

The Compo will run through to April 27th 2011

Cheers!

Hey David, Im in, but I was wondering weather this is like the last compo, where all you needed was the final render and you didnt need to include the models? Because I plan to edit the background of my entry and put in a google maps thing, but I wont be able to attach a model of that... just wondering

Cheers,
Anayar

We're easing up on the include models/textures and stuff. A good beauty shot, and if possible at multiple angles is good enough.

Cheers!

P.S. you still get brownie points if you show some good WIP's.. the compo is about learning and improving your skills after all.

Alright I'm in this round, going to see how long I can defend my title. I dare someone to just try and take it.

Found a free hour to start my entry. Going to start a thread with a time-lapse of screen shots as I build it. Should be interesting.

Progress Shot:

Ok, I'm in, here's what i got so far:
This is from about 30 minutes of mainly trying to map the texture on the baseball and trying to get an atmosphere on the earth (which was still unsuccessful)

I Doubt i'd win, didn't really take long for mine, just two spheres and one sculpted sphere with halo effect but who knows, i might get something.
i improved mine again, subdividing the back part of the fire and making look more solid, i also put a little Satelite in the background too. all i gotta do to the satelite now is texture it and i guess my entry is done.

My entry, air hockey is my favourite sport, since it requires little movement and is fairly fast paced.

Nice. Though, you could add some shine to the wood and the tabletop, to add some beauty.

would it be allowed if I just gave in a high poly render with a render that simulate how the materials look instead of texture maps?

Thats a paintball gun btw

Any and all entries are considered.. if your model does not use a texture map, then chances are it won't be considered for best texture prize, but there is still best model and 3D master. no one model can win all three. But it helps if your model has all three aspects, good texture, good model and good render, to be considered as a contender for 3D master. We try to choose the best models that fill all the criteria.

Cheers!

Vent, that looks good but if that's snow and it's been snowing, shouldn't there be snow on the Jeep, the bleachers and the pipe?

Damn, there should be snow on the bleachers. But the truck could have just pulled up. Oh well, to late, thanks.

O.o There was also suppose to be a sky background, I don't know what happened there..
