I waited all week for the beta servers to open up today only to find out they're closed this weekend but had been open all week! Arghhh, stop changing the dates on me! correction, server is online right now

In other news, the forum mentioned the beta is available on Steam.

The Darkspore creators did themselves out of a sale by letting me play BETA. It looked good, I was going to buy it, played the BETA and will now save my money for a better game like Big Rigs.

the game is fine, however, i believe it will become repetive, since all the missions are about the exact same thing: slaughter until boss, then kill boss
a bit too simple, and all maps are created pretty much alike and sometimes maps are reused for a different mission on a different place
Game play is fine, very fine imo, played best with friends, the amount of creatures is amazing, the amount of items are sick, the amount of levels are just wow.
however, the money system is crap, since <you will never run out of money, EVER.>

fine game, which needs somewhat more variety to make it =/

It's unfair to compare modern EA video games against the marvel that is Big Rigs.

EA are the publisher
but they tell the companies what to do basically.

no, but they can demand that some things have to be done
but no, they dont tell them exactly what to do, the company has an idea, EA comes in tell them what they like and what they dont like

well thats my idea of it basicly, since i cant believe EA came in and said to crytek how crysis would be.

The publisher can demand whatever the hell they want, otherwise they won't publish your game. You're in the weaker negotiation position, since they have the cash to payroll development in the first place

Also Maxis is a subsidiary of EA, so yeah, what EA wants will directly translate into what the product is

Crytek has relationships with Ubisoft and EA, as well as the fact they get cash from their engine and tech. licences. So they're in a much stronger position to say "This is our game: take it or leave it". They are also not a sub. like Maxis is.

I believe Maxis is actually located inside of EA Redwood Shores, so they don't work out of their own building anymore. It's pretty much EA, as the teams change all the time and employees move around from project to project.
