is there any way I can save the boxes into an x file or will i have to extract the locations and spaces and recreate an x file to suit the purpose.

I have no idea about that format, has anyone made a box or cube to x type of formatter.?

well personally I would make a cube with points at set locations. Then make the cube open it up in notepad. Then huntdown those points. But maybe not not the best way long term .

However I think the directx file format is open source, theres a few sites that talk about how to construct a file. Looks like a whole new programming / scripting experiance ...great . Get on that yahoo.

Not sure... can anyone tell me what exactly "Save Mesh" does?

It sure is possible to write your own export function, but you'd have to keep track of every vertex...
