Developer: Wolf

Introduction: Some of you might have red it somewhere around these forums as I mentioned multiple times that I'll start developing my first commercial game this summer Well, its not exactly summer but its warm outside

I never claimed my games to be good enough to be sold. But, to be honest, most FPSC games out there for sale are a lot worse than my projects and most stuff produced for free by this community. Ertlov once told me that I could sell a game like Euthanasia for 6,99 on Steam. Well... besides the fact that Euthanasia was short and bugged...I couldn't handle the support for it. Imagine all these people dropping me angry lines about the game (which was highly unstable) not running.

But since FPSC is evolving and becoming more and more stable every beta, I think this project might just come out great (if I don't buggle it up royally)

Gameplay: An adventure heavily inspired by frictional's Penumbra ,Bethesda's Call of Ctulhu and John Carpenters The Thing (which is one of my favorite movies) which is combining a thrilling storyline with harsh, realistic survival gameplay. Putting the player in the shoes of a security officer investigating an emergency call on a deserted research base. What started to be a routine mission becomes a nightmarish journey into the depht of ancient horrors ment to be undiscovered.

(okay...how many typos have I got so far? )

This game features:

*Harsh Weather Effects which might even be lethal for the character
*Realistic Gunhandling (all thanks to Errant AI
*Puzzle-solving gameplay and completely interactive levels
*Best visual quality I am able to achieve
*Best Audio quality I am able to achieve
*Long and varied gameplay
*voice acting
*Simulated fear/weather and health effects
*This game will probably feature RPG Mod (which will let me
add a lot more to this list )
*Outdoor levels

I will not unreveal the storyline or locations...well, in the following, underdeveloped pre-pre-pre alpha screenshot (which shows absolutely no final quality) you can already guess where the game's story will be located.

In case you haven't noticed a closer look

People who enjoy reading classic mystery novels might already guess where I'm heading.

The full version will feature an actually textured wallshelv
To be honest, the only thing that is absolutely final on these shots are the guns.

Trivia

How long is this already in development?

Pre-development including gathering media and story concept have already started a few weeks ago. But I was uncertain if and how I'll develop this game.

What about the shavra remake you announced in the relict thread?

Frozen again, this setting and FPSC (and my media...I don't have any quality scifi-weapons I could sell in a commercial project.)
are far more compatible.

Two work in progress projects?

Two? Soon I'm starting a new apprenticeship, taking a correspondence course to claim back my higher school degrees which was impossible for me in this nightmare education system of luxemburg, I paint and I'm working on segment packs (for sale aswell)... still...relict is something I do more like drawing: for fun and for the sake of statisfying my constant need of creative activity. Who cares you might ask? I'm not forcing you to read this

What will this cost?

Between 5 and 10 €

What is the next step in the development of this project?

I'll have to create new and realistic (and less annoying) step sounds. The environemental sounds: Doors, Steps, Surroundings are the most important parts when it comes to athmosphere I have already found good freeware I can work with. Sounds will be a bit of trouble in this project as I can't use my usual non-comm sources anymore.

Have mercy on my grammar

Game's Name is a working title.

Comments are much appreciated

If you want, I could lend you some voice acting. I'm an American so perhaps that is what you were looking for?
I don't believe I have too bad of an accent on me so if you ever need some help, I'm here.

I also was thinking about starting up a commercial project; very serious one too. I don't think I will go over $5 and
to be quite frank, probably $3 or close to that. The less it costs, the more free people would be about buying it.
I don't know what steam charges or even if they would let FPSC games onto the store... but it seems like if your game was good
enough, it could turn out to be lucrative business.

Best of luck and nice choice of setting by the way. The south pole sure is a rarity in these boards.

have you tried using freesound? all sounds can be used for commerical usage as long as you credit the author, they also have a pretty responsive forum where people will record specialist sounds for you.

http://www.freesound.org/index.php

also, if you need anything from me in particular just tell me and ill bump it to the top.

looks good.

Looks really good! I hope this gets as much attention as it can and if you get it on steam, then that would change FPSC history (somehow)! I will totally buy it!

I guess its lack of self esteem and maybe the unstable older FPSC Versions.

Are you good with buildings?

@Astek

Quote: "If you want, I could lend you some voice acting."

Almost certain. There will be a female character in the game for sure but I do not know yet about a male one... still there will be plenty of voice acting for Phone Messages and taperecorders.

Sure is, if I manage to recreate it authentically.

Yes Everything on this screenshot will be retextured again (except the mug...its cool)

@Bootlicker: thanks, I don't really like freesound.org. However! I collected a vast amount of base soundeffects I can work with.

I think Ertlov will find its a lot harder getting on Steam than what he thinks it is. Also how does he make that price point.
Being sensible, for 6.99, you can buy older AAA games on budget, and if you cant find what you want on budget there is eBay and a resale service on Amazon. If I am not mistaken your game looked to be something that may be playable in under an hour, which puts it at the time one would play a demo of a game from a large studio for free.
Though I will not say that you cannot sell a game, but Steam may be harder to get to distribute on than what you may believe, its a privilege and not a right, your best bet is niche audience, or an IP that has the copyright expired, high demand, low supply and competitors.

Of course! I would like to give it a listen

That's what I thought. But I also see a lot of crap being sold for far more money ...and people buy it. And if I can create an entertaining adventure game that is no crap, why shouldn't I sell it aswell?

Quote: "If I am not mistaken your game looked to be something that may be playable in under an hour, "

You mean Euthanasia? Yes... it was, but this game will be far more developed and should last at least 5 hours. (at LEAST)

Quote: "but Steam may be harder to get to distribute on than what you may believe"

I'll try it anyway Maybe I'm lucky, maybe I'm not

To be honest it doesnt show much new . You have made better "comercial" quality scenes.

Anyway - it looks quite good, besides the gun stands out a bit too much. The models look good, some no smoothing groups tho. Entity placement is logical and well thought like always .

@AdrianMa: Thank you!
@Raxmux: Yes! And I replied
@Nazareth Entertainment: Thanks! And good luck with your project.

@Red Eye: Thanks
Yeah! This scene is there so the game does not violate the board rules and it is really really REALLY rough. Alpha 0.0001 if you want

For this project I want to work with photographys and I'm currently doing research on real arctic stations and the lifestyle there.

I'm also uncertain how the visual style of the game will be. I want it to be intense, but not too stylized and overshaded which is a bit of a hazzle

Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

Thanks Delusional Games!

Yeah, this might seem wierd but few of you already know that I work on a side project to work on my modeling skills for this and relict.

I was doing this in secret but I'm getting pretty cool results.

Just tell me if you guys would like to check out another development threat or if you would just be annoyed that I have 3 running threads on this board. I'm unsure as it seems a bit unprofessional.

I find nothing wrong with that everyone has more than one idea.with all these models who could be stuck on one theme. this is WIP so we are just show off what came up as an idea. so what if it get cancelled we are a work in progress our selves. unprofessional? no. there was games that was idea for n64 that got cancelled. so if game or the next and you decide to more on to a better idea game than so be. your work is good so its always good to see the progress you have made wolf.

Hey!

Just wanted to note you folks that this isn't dead (You probably have forgotten about it already though).

I'm collecting a huge load of images about antartica...its not even funny anymore. I've also watched 2 docus and every movie about it I could find so I can really get an authentic mood.

I see if I can contact somebody that is actually working down there for a few questions regarding everyday life and well...I try to get the best out of this.

I'm not sure if I will keep making games for the next couple of years, but if yes, they all will be first person adventures. I figured that this is the genre I'm best at and where I can really reach people.

So, thanks for your patience and faith in my projects. I haven't seen anyone nagging about how this turns up to be like 90% of the WIP threads etc.
