Yes, you did read the title right, I shall be giving away 2 of my PC components at the start of May.

Items being Given

PowerColor ATI HD 4870 1GB (Retail @ £70/£80)

This card had been used by me for a good few years, and is still in perfect condition. For those of you who game at moderate resolutions, this card will run all current, modern games on their maximum settings smoothly. The card powered through Crysis, Crysis, BC2 with no problems what so ever. The card runs at the default: 770Mhz core and 900Mhz shader clock, although it can easily be overclocked to 800Mhz and 1000Mhz, thanks to PowerColor's aftermarket cooler.

Corsair HX520W Modular PSU (Retial @ £50-£60)
While Corsair are famous for their RAM, their PSU's are also highly regarded. The PSU provdies rock solid poer to all your vital components, all whilst remaining whisper quiet. I ran a 4Ghz overclock on this PSU for long period of time, and the PSU didn't break a sweat. All cables etc. will be provided with the PSU.

4GB of Geil Ultra Low Latency (4-4-4-12) DDR2 RAM. Runs at 2.1 V [Retail: £60)

Once my new 6970 and XFX 1KW PSU arrive and are installed at the beggining of May, I shall announce the date these shall be given away. If all who are interested post on this thread, I shall pick a name at random when the time comes. I shall also operate a honesty system, where if the individual(s) (haven't decided if I'm going to split the components yet) choose to donate some money, then they are welcome to, but I won't force anyone to do so

Since I don't have my main rig with me to take pictures, I shall get some reference shots off google later tonight and upload them so you can take a look at the components.

That is all,

CoZ

holy crap! would i be able to use any of this on my crappy setup without having to buy any more components?

1.6ghz Dual Core Processor
2.00 GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 128mb Gfx

Whatever cooling the standard Dell Inspiron came with like 4-5years ago.

Thanks,

Ben

Dude I need that so badly lol. I have literally never had a good video card. I already have a good power supply and a plenty good enough computer. Just never had the extra spending dollars for an expensive card.

I bought a 512mb card a while back but it broke quite fast. It actually broke before I ended up even getting it in a computer that was capable of using it too lol.

Note - as of now im stuck of with an integrated graphics card that can barely run easy games like portal and titans quest on the lowest settings. I am willing to pay about $50, but I dont know if I can afford much more. Hope I win, probably more so than most others here lol. Pc gaming is so much better than console, but with an integrated card, its just not worth it.

@Bootlicker: Your processor will be a massive bottleneck on this card. You would see an improvement over what you have, but you would only be using about 10% on the cards overall performance.

Here are some reference pictures of the components:

Size comparison wise, here is my new card & PSU:

Very generous of you. While I certainly wouldn't mind having either of them, I can't really say I actually need either one.

I agree with everyone about how generous this is, and am going to take interest, I don't actually have a graphics card at the moment and am running on the mobo so it would be greatly appreciated, of course I'd pay for postage unless you live in Suffolk, somewhere near Ipswich, in which case it may be cheaper and easier to collect it.

@PlanetaryFunk: I currently study in Aberystwyth university in Wales. I'm not sure how much postage would be on these (since I'm not sure I have the original boxes for the products, so I would have to wrap them up myself carefully).

@Everyone: What do you all think of the honesty system? I think it's a good idea, as it does not force people to give money for the products, but (for example), if someone gave £30, they are getting about £100 worth of components for a steal.

@bootlicker: Shame you didn't contact me earlier, because I had an old 5200+ Dual core 2.6Ghz processor + Antec 9 freezer HSF that I sold to a mate for £15.

Benchmarks for 4870 1GB

Power Consumption

As you can see, it can easily cope with many games at stupidly high resolutions. I also just ran a price check on these cards, they are going for near, if not over £100!.

I agree, if whoever gets the products has the slightest bit of decency they would give the money.

Meh, I'd be nice to have a better graphics card than I'm running now, but in all honesty I've yet to find a game that refuses to run at all on my hardware, so I think I can be thankful for that.

I just now realized I've had a typo in my signature for the past 3 years.

Wow, thats rather generous of you to be giving stuff away CoZ, especially after all your free shader work you've done for the FPSC community.

That GFX card would be a perfect upgrade to the one I have now, it's the same type of card, only faster. It'd be perfect for game designing and making the most of the 4GB ram I have in my machine.

No one said the HTPC box had to just be for movies and streaming media I also would enjoy the occasional game on my big screen as well

edit: if anyone saw that, I will take back that statement about it being not so beefy these days. It's actually not too far behind my desktop's video card that I bought 6 months ago (albeit I was on a budget and there were many cards better than mine out at the time)

I guess to be technical it's not beefy by today's top of the line, but it's still competitive

I have a 4870, 512mb, and it's nearly dead. If I buy another GPU I'm probably going to pretty much buy a new PC which I really won't be able to afford for another year. A 4870 1gb would be a godsend.

Yes, it is me.

Glad to see there is so much interest. FOr reference, this card is 9.5 inches long, so it should fit in all mid-tower cases. I have decided that I shall split the components, so 2 users shall each receive a component. They will have to pay shipping however. It would also be alot easier if the 2 winners also lived in the UK, as postage would be cheaper.

[OFF TOPIC]: Does anyone have a retail copy of Windows 7 I could purchase (one of the users here may run a computer business, that's why I'm asking). I have been looking for places I can buy windows 7 at a reduced cost.

NEW ITEM ADDED TO GIVEAWAY!

4GB of Geil Ultra Low Latency (4-4-4-12) DDR2 RAM. Runs at 2.1 V [Retail: £60)

Thats right, I'm essentially giving away a whole system here!. A question for you all, do you think I should split the components, or give them away as one big budle, worth close to £160?

Just built the "Coz-enator V2":
CPU: AMD Phenom II 555 Black Edition @ 4.3Ghz
COOLING: OCZ Vendetta II HSF Cooler
RAM: 8GB Corsair TwinX XMS2 DDR2 RAM
GPU: 2GB XFX XXX Edition ATI 6970
HDD: 320GB Western Digital
PSU: XFX 1KW XXX Edition
CASE: Antec 90
OS: Windows 7 Premium 64 Bit

Because of the new build, my older RAM serves a use no longer. Thus I have decided to give it away in the bundle . Feel free to share your opinions on the new build, and what could be improved etc.

I think you should give them away to different people, maybe people should say which bit they want and you could draw them separately? that way the RAM won't be going to someone who doesn't need it and vice-versa for the others

@Blobby 101: Good idea!

Could everyone please state what part they desire, so I can call winners for each part seperately.

@Indicium: Since I build my computers myself, it worked out a tad cheaper than it normally would. The most recent upgrades: 6970, 8GB RAM, PSU & the OS came to: £440 delivered. Thanks to the fans in the Antec 900, and the great OCZ Vendetta cooler, I can get 4.3Ghz on the CPU (running @ 1.525V) at temps of: 28C Idle | 38-40C Max load.

Did a Bench on Crysis 1. I can play on the highest settings, with 8xAA in DX10 @ 1920 x 1200 and get an average of over 60fps. At 2560 x 1600, I get an average of 35fps, with the minimum FPS being 30.

After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I ran a bench on Crysis, which at 1920 x 1200, it grabbed Crysis 2 by its danglies, ripped them off, ate them, and then spat them back out in its face. Get the picture?

Far Cry 2 was a similar story. 1920 x 1200, DX10, 8xAA & 16xAF, Average of 75fps.

Not that comfortably. It wouldn't hurt if case manufacturers would start making cases just a few inches deeper so everything is jammed up against each other.

Oh man, this is very generous of you, but I don't think I can make myself take something so expensive off of a fellow forum member for free, even if you are giving it away to the community on purpose. As much as I'd like to have any of these parts for my crappy system, I'm sure someone else can get much more use out of them. Not entering, here, but thanks so much for being so kind.
