Just got my lovely new Western digital Caviar Green 2TB, 64mb cache - OEM

Wired the thing up to my pc, first boot took longer than usual, Installed and recognised the new device asked for a restart. Done all that, rebooted and loaded up at normal speed now it says its a Blue-ray player -_________-"

First time ive ran into this, so naturally i googled the hell out of it and browsed a few help forums. Nothing at all ;__;

Loaded up device manager, its under Disk drives i can populate it and can see it has 2tb of space

Uninstalled, reinstalled to no avial any help please? Im pretty lost on what to do with this one

I had a similar problem with a usb device, it refused to recognise it as what it was, until I unplugged a different usb device which fixed it.
On mine I think it was just an iffy current supply, alternatively the port might be damaged, could be a similar problem on yours.
Also, see if there's any manufacturer drivers for it and install them, that might fix it.

I think ive sorted it, its currently formatting the drive, stupidly slowly but hopefully after this it should work.

Very odd. You said it shows up under disks in device manager, so where is it saying its a bluray player?

It's 2TB through USB, of course it's gonna take awhile to format!

No its internal on a 6/gbs connections XD

And it shows as a bluray player in My computer for some reason. At least thats the new icon there after the installation. Formatted 46% as of now. Not really that bad considering its size and the fact im racking up 8gb+18ghz usage right now rendering in max is a real bugger

What OS do you use? I remember XP having trouble recognizing driver larger than 2tb. But nothing a firmware update couldn't fix.

Reboot! Sometimes my drives have had random icons before, small Windows quirk I guess.

hmmm, not that it matters anymore, you got it working..
But maybe it has something to do with the manufactures method of formatting before packaging that left a tiny residual file on the HDD..

Eh who cares..

120mbs?
Does it actually read and write at those speeds or is it just the specs that says it does?
I don't think I have ever had a HDD actually perform as well as the specs say.
