uhhh, yeah.

For those of you who don't know, Mount & Blade is a game where you start as a peasant, and work your way up commanding troops and taking on enemies through brutal, skill-based h2h combat (well... archers+throwing+cav also).

Mount & Blade Warband added multiplayer combat. What's really cool is that this is 100% skill based multiplayer combat. You'll have one person running around pwning everyone, mostly because they're a really good swordsperson.

So single player, you can have huge battles, with around 200 active units. (IE if you're fighting a battle of 1000v1000 people, the enemies will just come in waves, w/ a max number of units fighting at a time)

someone (username: reapy) has some good videos. (I think reapy was a beta tester, but is definitely a warband veteran)

duelz:

siege mode:

Anyways, mount and blade warband is on sale for $6 through steam (down from $30).

This is in preparation for the release of another mount&blade, "with fire and sword", which has extra features added, with early-style guns added (shoot once or twice, then bayonette).

I'm just saying, because my friends really wanted this game, just not $30 worth, soooo I said I'd tell them when there was a sale on steam. If anyone gets it and wants to play around, my steam username is neurofuzzy.

PS. It runs very quirkily through wine. I'd recommend playing it on a windows machine.

PPS. You can get m&b+m&b warband + m&b with fire and sword for $20.

[edit2]

ALSO. Ping is important for this game. 200+ ping means you really can't play, and 100 ping is where I draw the line. That means that playing with people overseas is preeettty difficult, as it takes a lot of the skill-based stuff away. there are a lot of people that play, however, and I see plenty of russian n bri'ish people online.

[edit3]
ahh yeah, and clans are awesome. I went to an organized event with horse racing/archer battles/3v3v3v3 tournaments w/ like 60 people in attendance, and it was amazing.

Warband is a hell of a lot of fun =) much better than the original, especially since it got multiplayer, and also it takes into notice in SP if you are a female, you will be treated differently^^

yeah, from what I've heard, "With Fire and Sword" allows more customization for your troops. An example given was that during sieges, troops with long swords wouldn't be able to complete their swings. If a sword runs into something at the beginning of its swing, it does little to no damage. The customization options would allow you to equip your troops with, say, short axes, which would be better weapons to use during a siege, in close-quarters combat.

I hope they also have more micromanagement options, for moving troops around on the battlefield.

A good number of people in the warband clan I'm in have decided they aren't going to buy with fire and sword... However, I definitely am. I doubt that the developers haven't worked a lot on this new release, and I want to see what they've come up with!

also... I told my friends to get warband... I hope they get the whole pack instead. It'd be lame if I told them to get warband, then quit to go play With Fire and Sword xD

One of my favourite games. I'll have to pick up a couple of copies of this for my next LAN party. Is it LAN playable?

I played the original during Beta more than I can remember. I remember when it didn't have ragdoll in and falling in love with it all over again when they introduced it.

I just bought the complete package(mount & blade, mount & blade: Warband and mount & blade: with fire and sword) on steam for $20 which due to the incredibly strong Australian Dollar was less than $20 for me...

I shall look forward to playing the original again and trying out the new ones...

multiplayer is amazing!

well... it's amazing if you're on a good server. It's not fun when everyone spams archer.

I bought Warband. I cringe every time I see how many hours I have played.

Got the complete pack. Played the Warband demo a few months back and loved it, then was waiting for it to drop to $20. Lucky day

Can't wait for Fire and Sword.

Edit: Well. Seems I mixed my days up, thinking it was the 2nd. So. Installing With Fire and Sword now

Bought it from Amazon for £10. Yeah, twice the price, but I like having a shiny DVD with it on. I'm hoping you get AI counterparts in LAN games, otherwise it'll be a lonely 2 v 2 on the battlefield.
